Just a FYI: i have many times previously transferred the zenwalk install iso file to an USB stick, and used that for install (is faster than an actual CD most of the time, and works with machines that do not have a CDROM drive ;D ) - download the iso file - loop-mount the iso file - prepare an USB s...

Just a FYI: As an alternative to lilo parameters, i've used -to good effect- the following: If you want to use /etc/modprobe.d you have to create a file call video.conf and write options i915 modeset=1 That was in a previous zenwalk, but i'd expect that to still work. Adding a file to /etc/modprobe....

For test you could try on a command-line: MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME =/usr/lib/mozilla LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/mozilla eclipse So, the two 'set commands', separated by a space, followed by the command to start eclipse (again with a space in between...). I'm assuming here that the command to start eclipse is...

First-off: i'm a Qt-guy... So anything i mention w.r.t. GTK should be regarded with sepsis ;D I did find the following: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/ and -more gnomish-: http://developer.gnome.org/gtk-tutorial/2.90/ good gui-ing.... X!! Oh, and before i forget entirely: happy new year to...

General procedure:

1) remove windows-entries from the file /etc/lilo.conf
2) run 'lilo'.

W.r.t. 1): man lilo.conf gives 'hints' as to what should be there...
W.r.t. 2): the changes in the file lilo.conf are not 'activated' till lilo is run (again..)

The 'zenwalk-traditional' method to install a package *with* dependencies is to use the netpkg 'front-end', where you can select to have a package -and all 'deps' installed in one 'go'. If you have problems finding inkscape in the 'mirror' you selected, it might be that you'll have to select another...

Could you give some more details please? 'Video does not owrk' is a bit vague ;-) For reference: I have zenwalk 'running' on two Asus eeepc 4G (7" LCD, 4Gig flash-disk, 512 MB RAM) computers: one running zenwalk + kde-3, another zenwalk + kde-4, both fully functional. If i'd know in more detail...

You'd probably (hopefully.... ;D ) not notice (all too much), but there are a ton of spam entries removed each day. The usual pattern is that a spammer (spam-bot?) 'breaks' the captcha, creates a 'new' user, puts up a spam message and then abandons the user entry. That does give us a load of 'new' u...

I found that many programs that use libboost link to a very specific 'sub-version' of libboost. I'm not sure, but i think that is not really needed, and i suspect that libboost itself -rather the way libboost is built- is guilty of that. What i mean is -for instance- the following: * I have libboost...

Sorry, when you mentioned 'non-rooky', i switched to a 'shorthand' description of the procedure.... One thing that will be of some help -i hope- is the Wiki: in this case: http://wiki.zenwalk.org/index.php?title=HOWTO_Compile_a_Kernel_Manually Basically: use netpkg to get & install the kernel so...

I guess -from your description- that 'the' module you need is not by default build when the zenwalk kernel is built. You should be able to remedy that by building the module yourself. You'd need: - the 'netpkg kernelsource' package, - find which build option (make menuconfig of the linux kernel) you...

For my curiosity: which 'type' Latitude? I have a D630, which is 'by now' my main machine. 'At work' I also have a D620 which is used for testing work. Both seem perfectly happy with ZenWalk, even when i'm running kde on both.

you might want to look at the contents of the directory /var/packages That is a cache of all packages that you have ever downloaded and installed using netpkg. If you can suffer losing the cache contents (meaning: netpkg will re-download package it needs from the mirror(s)) removing that directory c...
