OK, my budget has gone up, and I have focused on an Asus F3JC. The hardware is nearly 100% Linux compatible (only the webcam doesn't work, but it's not a real problem for me).

I will try to find some more information about the T41 (I've definitely fallen in love with the Thinkpads !) and T42. The asus seems very fine too, the one I've selected has nearly the same hardware than yours sabras. So it will surely be very easy to get everything working fine. And more, there see...

I have just finished to compile the kernel and make the tgz with the first method.

And I'm a bit lazy  ;D ! so I will try to see if it works, and if not I will try the 'Slackware-like' method.
