OK, my budget has gone up, and I have focused on an Asus F3JC. The hardware is nearly 100% Linux compatible (only the webcam doesn't work, but it's not a real problem for me).

Thank you all for your help !

I will try to find some more information about the T41 (I've definitely fallen in love with the Thinkpads !) and T42. The asus seems very fine too, the one I've selected has nearly the same hardware than yours sabras. So it will surely be very easy to get everything working fine. And more, there see...

Hi zenwalker fellows ! I have to buy a new laptop, because my Latitude L400 starts being tired. As I don't know much about the new hardware, I need your advice. I will use this new laptop to watch DVDs, make some office work, listen to music, and maybe play some games, everything with my favourite Z...

Really great ! I'm looking for a laptop with Linux pre-installed or without OS. Really interesting : I learned that some time ago, Dell offered to pre-install Linux on its PCs, but this option disappeared (probably Micro$oft spanking Dell for not selling Windows !). And now, they offer this option a...

Hi everybody ! I've dowloaded, compiled and installed OGMRip : it's a simple GUI DVD encoder that uses Mencoder. It handles encoding the soundtrack in ogg-vorbis, mp3, AAC or just use it without compression. You can encode the video with XviD, DivX, theora... As MPlayer is now the default video play...

There is not only the point of multimedia in which Windows blows up Linux. Videogames for example, are much simpler to use with Windows than with Linux, because they're built for Windows. But Linux is far more secured than Windows. And the most important thing in the world : you're not free with Win...

I a very new user to linux (and Zenwalk !) I was a lambda Windows user since last december. At school I learned to use win98 and NT and we had a windows 3.1 PC at home. Then in 1999 we got another PC, with win98. We kept it since 2005 and we bought another one. In september 2005 I went to the facult...

I have just finished to compile the kernel and make the tgz with the first method.

I will tell you later.
