Unfortunately that doesn't help. I tried the "PreferredMode" both right after the ModelName and just before the EndSection. No difference though.

I've given up & wait 'till they come out with Xfce update.

You're probably missing something, maybe policykit/policykit-gnome/consolekit?

Ehh... of course I was missing. Quite a lot, actually. Thanks for the advice!

What doesn't work in gnome? For example, reboot and shutdown. I've used logout in order to get out of the Gnome. Then I've been able, say, to reboot. - There were some other things I wondered right after I had installed gnome it but can't remember anymore. (Quitting an app - after a few hours sessi...

Totem... doesn't show the texts Apparently Totem will only play the subtitle files if they have the exact (!) same name as the movie. In this case, there was a difference in "Title" vs. "title". It will load them automatically if they are in the same folder and named the same (e...

And the screen settings also work in Gnome (some other things don't). Unfortunately, Gnome database doesn't recognise my tube... However, the problem is therefore with Xfce.

Well, I installed the Enlightenment. I was able to change the screen resolution & refresh rate for it. I put some white theme, decreased the resoluton & increased the refresh rate: the visible difference in flicker was strong & clear. Otherwise the Enlightenment is so fragile that second...

After 3 days with the 6.0 one can appreciate (despite of the Xorg problem/bug) the easy configurability, functionality, speed, stability and overall robustness of this extraordinary combination of Slackware and Xfce called Zenwalk! It easily beats Slackware 12.x with Xfce. Especially when an ordinar...

Here the issue is: I want 1280x1024 (@85) but X keeps coming up in 1600x1200 (...) Even when I manually delete all "Modes" entries, or just leave "1280x1024" in, no luck. Still 1600x1200. Nothing seems to matter. I haven't any real doubt that's it's an X server (...) issue I wan...

I was wondering the disappearance of the firewall, too. This has been quite confusing experience, especially when you compare to the upgrade to 5.2. I installed from a cd to old partition without properly formatting the partition. That may be the reason that most of the apps I've installed with Netp...

I installed HPLIP two weeks ago. Worked fine & cetera. That was supposed to be the last "major operation" because after the Zenwalk installation, and uppgrading the software (from current only), I had installed couple of apps & loaded data from external hard drive. Everything was w...

You can always use the "chown" command. That makes it simple & quick to get write privileges back to the present user. example: chown -R [username]:users /home/[username]/.mozilla

Thanks! I try to remember that.

Yes, that helped. Thank you! Actually, not exactly corrupt but some writing rights were quite restricted... Another thing: I didn't imported the settings from Opera - as it asked while without any settings files - but started the weasel like it was & did the new settings. I must say I'm a bit wa...

Thank you for the answers,

and sorry for slow reply...! Last autumn was such a drag that I didn't had much chance to think of weekend computing. Yes you're right, there's no point in searching a "pure" cd-writer. I'll just grab some well-named box from the local shop.

Thanks!

Iceweasel 3.0.5 settings don't get saved? Iceweasel just don't save the new settings. I always get the same weasel settings when I reboot the Zenwalk (been doing some fiddling in the weekend*) or start the weasel app again. I mean, it seems that weasel just don't replace the old settings file with t...
