Took the easy way out with this issue. Came across an ancient Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8X that works just fine, although the installation hung up 3 times and had to do a hard shut down each time, upon each restart, the installation continued on and eventually got installed. Everything is working j...

Going to try this topic in my favorite Linux distro's forum. Zenwalk does everything else so well out of the box, it's worth a shot. Will an ANCIENT 3d Labs Oxygen GVX1 video card that's in the computer I'm working on work in ZW? How about in a MUCH older release? Any tips on how I CAN get it to wor...

Problem solved!! Removed Zenwalk and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Can now make screen size ANY size I want it to be. Turns out this laptop has Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics, which is VERY easy to determine under Windows. Really wish this hadn't been such a stupid reason for installing Windows, bu...

Like I said, I will try what you have suggested as soon as I get a chance and let you know. I did see a couple search results saying it had that particular Intel chipset also though, but MOST said Nvidia.

Thank you very much.

I already did just the liloconfig, exactly as you posted above, which only gave me the rolling text boot screen until I reached the desktop. Are you asking me to do JUST THAT again? I will try the videoconfig next time I'm on laptop. Maybe I can get on it this evening to try, otherwise it will be to...

Thank you franco. Probably won't be able to get at this until tomorrow. "Go to settings/display/resolution and switch to a lower one or maybe just ,always in settings, go to appearance/fonts and use a bigger one." That part of your reply is my entire issue. I have NO other option in displa...

That's the part I THINK I need after running liloconfig @franco Yes, It is an Intel graphics card. I think it's a...

Thanks azertyh I had previously seen 2 of those threads, but not the one you mentioned. I TOTALLY suck at any command line stuff, which I know I'm going to need to do here to delete xorg.conf from /etc/X11, so might as well ask right now. How do I do that? Thanks again Edit: Yep, Obviously need to d...

OK. The usual xorg.conf editing question. What do I need to change or do to get this laptop to actually use different screen sizes? It only list one size under display. Everything is so small, I can barely read anything. Size is 1680x1050 and I want 1280x800 Here is my xorgconf file. This is a IBM T...

According to nVidia website, the correct driver for your card is 173.14.28, so I am thinking that you will have to download the driver from there and use that one. http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.28/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.28-pkg...

Have you tried using devede? It's really quite simple, you don't need to type esoteric commands. It even does simple a DVD menu! Of course, if you have software that you're more familiar with in Windows then there's no reason not to use that. That's almost exactly what I was asking about. My questi...

@Blackbird: Exactly what I said about it disappearing and NO, the gui you see is just that, eye candy for the iptables. Yes, your firewall is still running even though the Firestarter icon disappeared. That's what iptables are in Linux, a firewall, although very difficult to understand/configure wit...
