Does anyone have experience with how to i get the 'above-mentioned' machine to repond to it's pcmcia slots.

- I'm using a ZenWalk-2.4.
- the /var/log/messages file does report 'card' inserted' and 'card ejected' at approporiate
  moments.
- i want it to 'see' a 3C556 10/100 MBps LAN/modem card (the LAN would be enough..)
- i have *one time* managed to make the machine 'see' the card, install the driver and
  actually used the network ok, but i can not reproduce it. It used the 3c574_cs driver, which:
  * is present on the system
  * does work ok: i could ftp and telnet with the result.
- I have the feeling that what is missing is something to trigger the machine to take 'appropriate
  action' after the card has been detected.

Solution: It turned out to be sorely missing sysfs-2.0
