I recently installed a printer with cups. It works fine with firefox, but I'm having trouble printing with abiword. Abiword doesn't recognize my printer, when I click print, all the options I get is create a PDF document, and generic postscript.

here are some specifications of my printer
Description: Deskjet
Location: Local
Printer Driver: HP DeskJet 812C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2
Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0

If I start abiword from the terminal I get this message when I click print
** (abiword:1591): WARNING **: Can't g_module_open /usr/lib/libgnomeprint/2.18.4/modules/libgnomeprintcups.so

I was reading a forum post similar on a puppy linux forum stated to open abiword, click on file, print, then in the box that says location, change it to custom and type /usr/bin/lpr -P Name_of_your printer.

So I typed: /usr/bin/lpr -P HP DeskJet 812C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2
and I got this message: /usr/bin/lpr: Error - unable to access "DeskJet" - No such file or directory

hm, next time I will stick to this site instead of google.

I installed the package, now abiword sees my printer, but it still won't print. D!!

here is what the command line says when I try to print:
** (abiword:3933): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1030

** (abiword:3933): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1030

** (abiword:3933): WARNING **: could not set the value of Settings.Document.Filter, node not found

** (abiword:3933): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1030

** (abiword:3933): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1030

(abiword:3933): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:1741: instance `0x87c8028' has no handler with id `2112'

(abiword:3933): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:1741: instance `0x87c8028' has no handler with id `2118'

all of this came up when I clicked file print and the box came up with print options, the one that says settings.document.filter was when I clicked print.

Are you sure your printer is the printer 'default' in cups, if isn't the case, try make it in cups or in printer in the zenpanel.

Another thing, the HP, specifics printers drivers, are in the package 'hpijs',I advise you to install this package.

yep, its the default and only printer.

I searched the site for hpijs, gmg, your quite the genius on it. I installed it also, but I still have the same problem. The command line also outputs the same information when I click print.

try to upgrade your current zenwalk with the command 'netpkg upgrade'

try to remove your printer and reconfigure.

I upgraded the system, but it still doesn't work. Let me know if you have anymore ideas.

I didn't want to purchase one of these but, on the back of the printer is a mini usb port. I'll buy a mini usb to usb cable and see how it works. (your probibly thinking, well, why didn't you say so sooner?) ;D sorry

Also, I'm not sure how to re configure the printer.

Thanks for your help!
