Hey guys and gals ;) I recently installed Zenwalk 6 to check it out. I've been a long time Slackware and Arch user (and still am as a matter of fact). Everything works just fine except one small but very annoying problem. Icons for mixer and power manager are not visible. I've placed mixer icon on the panel but it is not visible. I know that it is on the panel because the rectangle appears when i hover my mouse over the place where icon should be. The same problem goes for power manager. I've also noticed that in the mixer window there is no small icon for speaker where you mute channel but red cross instead. I've tryed to change the icon theme but that doesn't help. Did anyone have a similar problem?

uxix,
This little bug has come up several times, plus if you do a search on the forum, you'll find some other topics about it! Did you do a fresh install or upgrade to 6.0? Upgrades normally have this problem, but if you did a fresh install then updated from snapshot, it will occur as well. The fix I have found is to remove icon-themes package and reinstall it with Zendo or zpm. Somehow something gets confused during the updates and it just doesn't fix itself.

The problem is solved. I reinstalled the icon-themes package and installed new "custom" theme system wide except in .icons directory of my user. This fixed the problem.

Unfortunately, the problem appeared again after the firt reboot of the machine. It seems like this is some kind of a bug. Any suggestions?

The one thing that comes to mind is that something got saved that messed things up again when you shut down or rebooted. Try this. Remove & reinstall your icon=themes again. Log out of xfce then log back in again, paying close attention to the logout window part that says: Save sessions for future logins. Be sure that is NOT checked!

Once you log back in, see if your icons are still there. If all is well, try a reboot to see if they maintain the correct status again. Don't know if it's a bug or what, but once I get everything set as I want, I will log out with the Save sessions checked to be sure everything stays put, but then I uncheck it to be sure no problems occur afterwards. I have seen & experienced problems when that was activated, if my machine rebooted unexpectedly from a power blip or I was doing some testing, so I've since made sure it was unchecked.

Hopefully it's that simple for you, otherwise, I'm not sure where to point you.

The first thing I always do in a xfce enviroment is to uncheck that. I've unchecked that the first time I was rebooting the system after the install and it's stayed like that since...

Then maybe you need to go the other way. Remove/re-install and if everything looks ok, logout, but check the save sessions, then log back in where you will uncheck it?

This is really weird ::) . I did nothing yesterday and today everything seems o be in order. I even rebooted the machine several times and the icons are still here :-\. I hope that it will stay this way. As I could see so far, Zenwalk is a great distribution and it would be a shame that this kind of stupid bugs push users away from it. Anyway, tagged as solved, again ;)

Woohoo! \!D/

Hey, who can say what lurks in the heart of a computer? Only the Shadow knows! :D
Anyway, good news that it is working now, and I'll have to say, I've seen things like that before too! You should be in good shape now. Go ahead and add [Solved] to the title topic then.
