Hi,
I have Zenwalk 7 box with a LCD monitor 1920 x 1080, now when the monitor is replaced with a CRT 1024 x 768, it is blank, I can do a alt F2 to boot into text mode. I tried the following:

1. delete the /etc/X11/xorg.conf - does not work
2. init 3, videoconfig, a new xorg.conf was created, then restart, same problem

any idea how to reset this box to use a lower resolution ? Thanks,

Angelo

What is your graphics card?

when you alt+f2 can you look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and ~/.xsession-errors and see if there's any errors there.

I started the pc in a big lcd monitor, set the resolution to 1024 x 768 of the crt(AOC Spectrum 5em), then switch back to the crt monitor, start zenwalk in text mode, log in, startx, it works. but if I set the login to graphic mode, problem comes back.

adding a new user, start in text mode, login, then startx, problem comes back, have to set the resolution first in the big lcd monitor to 1024x768, it seems to me the video detection logic always uses a bigger resolution that crt monitor can not handle.

any tips? Thanks,

Angelo
