Hi, all!
Would someone explain me, please, what is the proper way to get localized versions of some applications like thunderbird, firefox, openoffice? I use these three daily yet I would prefer it in Polish. Well, my wife and daughters would, too :-)

The only way I know is to download xyz from the net and install it manually. OK, it works, but:
1) have to change all the /usr/bin/xyz links,
2) have to update it in similar way, cannot use netpkg,
3) my xyz is regarded as obsolete, soon, since it is updated as above; using netpkg would spoil the configuration described in point 1

So it is a clumsy and dirty way. Is there a right, clean one?

NB: AFAIK there is a Polish langpack for firefox that can be installed over the English version. Should I look for such stuff for any other program?

The correct way is download the polish-binary
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/f ... linux-i686
then (in the same directoy!) do
Code:
cp /usr/src/firefox-2.0/build-firefox.sh .
chmod +x build-firefox.sh
./build-firefox.sh

wait 30secs ;-)
=> firefox-package will be in /tmp
btw: somewhere in the build-firefox.sh a line with "LANG="
its usefol to set it to "LANG=pl" (but not needed).
drop a line here:
http://users.zenwalk.org/support/index. ... ,83.0.html
or somewhere else on the forum if you want to provide the package to users.

same as above should work for thunderbird. At users.zenwalk.org you will also find instructions for localizing openoffice and koffice.

It works! Thank you. I will try the same with thunderbird and ooo. Soon.

So now, after every upgrade, shall I repeat all that again and again? I thought it would be possible to add 'pl' to the list of maintained languages, so it would be done automagically... But now I am afraid that behind any localized application there is a nice guy watching for changes and building a proper package, and thus all I can do is to be one of them!  :'( Oh no, please, correct me!
