Just today, I acquired a VDPAU-supported Nvidia card. If you are a avid video watcher, VDPAU can bring a big smile to you because it gives you a way not to jog your processor while playing HD videos, for all the work mostly goes to the GPU. Since mplayer is a staple for me, I decided to create this build VDPAU support and with a patch and additional configure option so mplayer won't crash.

To take advantage of VDPAU, you need the accelerated Nvidia driver and that your Nvidia VC is VDPAU-supported.

[extra/xap] mplayer-vdpau svn30512

Description
MPlayer is a movie and animation player that supports a wide range of codecs and file formats: MPEG 1/2/4, DivX 3/4/5, Windows Media 7-9, RealAudio/Video up to 9, Quicktime 5/6, and Vivo 1/2. It has many MMX, SSE(2)/3Dnow(Ex) optimized native audio & videocodecs but allows use of XAnim's and RealPlayer's codec plugins, and Win32 codec DLLs. It can play VCD/DVD and supports subtitles. This is a special build of MPlayer with support for Nvidia's VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix). Requirements: VDPAU-supported Nvidia video chipset and the NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver.

Also, we all noticed the HTML5 shift done by YouTube, it may sound all good, but the problem is the video is in h264! >:( Firefox/Icecat cannot play those by default! Curse Google! >:( As a workaround, you need gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer.

[extra/xap] gnome-mplayer 0.9.9

Description
GNOME MPlayer is intended to be a nice tight player and provide a simple and clean interface to MPlayer. GNOME MPlayer has a rich API that is exposed via DBus. Using DBus you can control a single or multiple instances of GNOME MPlayer from a single command.

[extra/xap] gecko-mediaplayer 0.9.9

Description
Gecko Media Player is a browser plugin that uses GNOME MPlayer to play media in a browser. It should work with all browsers on Unix-ish systems (Linux, BSD, Solaris) and use the NS4 API (Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, etc.).

All you need now is Greasemonkey on Firefox/Icecat and HQTube for Greasemonkey to watch YouTube videos again :)
