Just a little problem: when I launch firestarter with the menu icon, I just get a screen with "You must have root privileges" and a OK button. Nothing to do, it didn't ask me any password ...

Thru the CLI:
Code:
root[firestarter]# firestarter

(firestarter:3556): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

Don't understand  :(

Firestarter must be run as root. Set up a sudo rule for it :) (preferrably without needing the root password).

And how can I do that  ???

but I think that running it from the CLI with root privileges was enough...

Hi,

Package upgraded, see the 1st post.
Now, you have the prompt for giving your root password  ;).

Enjoy !

Fred.

It's better, but now:

Code:
A proper configuration for Firestarter was not found. If you are running Firestarter from the directory you built it in, run 'make install-data-local' to install a configuration, or simply 'make install' to install the whole program.

Firestarter will now close.

Step by step...

Strange, not that kind of problem on my pc.
Did you enable the netfilter service before launching firestarter ?

I'm currently setting my first Zenwalk box up, and am now looking at the firewall.

I've got netfilter in and running from boot, but I'd like a GUI tool. I tried Firestarter in my Fedora days and it seemed quite good, but as I remember, I could'nt easily specify TCP or UDP ports, and it would 'randomly' block samba connection (randomly = I never figured out why).

I know this is more of an app question than a Zenwalk question, but I thought I'd try !
