Downloading now; Hoping this fixes the hard drive naming error which effectively forced me to Debian. Still excellent work though. Congratulations.

Hi,

I have tested it a few days ago, and it works great.
I have found another living link to download zenlive 5.0:

It would be good to have Live Cd feature to be included into the Installation Cd itself, some thing like Ubuntu Cd's. This will avoid downloading 800MB files.

Nice work!
BTW, the md5 files on the main zenwalk download page don't work:
Quote:
.../zenlive/zenwalk-live-5.0.iso.md5
VS.
.../zenlive/zenwalk-live-5.0.md5

Akuna, please pass my compliments to the chef! l!!! My tests thus far show another winner for a LiveCD. Some things I missed, but with the ability to add, then create a custom Live, it's easily accomplished. There should be loads of high praise around the net for this one, as there should be no others to compare!

Thanks for all the hard work and I think I can safely say it will be a great success! \!D/

Great news, ZenLive can be installed on system. I love it.

@Akuna

Is it possible to place Zen Installer as a desktop icon instead navigating to those menus? Many times neboos will be wondering how to install.

Also whats the need for password to launch Zen installer?

So far, for the most part, the new LiveCD is quite nice. I did experience some problems though that maybe someone can address. The first thing was using gparted. Now, I'm not an expert gparted user, but I have used it several times, so feel comfortable getting around in it. The one with 5.0 Live give me trouble though. When I was setting up the partitions, then trying to format them, it wouldn't! I tried everything, but no luck. This happened on two different systems, so seems to be a bug in either gparted or parted. I think I managed to get something to work on one of the systems, but don't remember what I did, unless it was stopping & restarting gparted. Never experienced this behavior before.

The second problem occurred when installing from the LiveCD. It installed just fine, but wouldn't boot, as I believe it was missing lilo setup. That's just it, not really sure, because everything is kinda vague as to what procedures to follow to do all this! Seems there were 4 tabs which served different functions in that program, but which step do you do when, etc.? Are there clear instructions in the Zen manual included? Do you go to the wiki? I was a bit lost through most of it! I just felt after this experiment, it was much to difficult to use safely. Others here have had successful experiences with the install, but how, where did you figure out what steps to follow to do that?

Thanks akuna, I did manage to find some helpful hints on what procedures to follow in installing from the LiveCD! I spent a bit more time playing with it today, so looked in the guide or manual from the icon on the desktop. Found it and it clarified things quite a bit. There were still some things not quite clear, so I'll try to get some specific things soon to you. Overall, it was quite helpful though. Do you think it would be helpful to have a "Readme First" icon on the desktop for people not familiar with the install? Either a doc with the info contained there or a note to welcome them to Zenwalk as well as a pointer to the guide for instructions?

Now on to the install. There is something wrong with gparted/parted. Eliminating a partition, no problem, creating a new one, resizing one, no problems, but when trying to format after making all changes, it always comes back with an error it can't do it. It also wasn't letting me unmount but one partition at a time for some reason and some other assorted oddities. I'll try with a 4.8 LiveCD tomorrow just to compare, but so far with all the machines I've tested on, IDE only or SATA only or mixed, these problems persist!

Now back to the install. It went well, as I mentioned, everything seemed to fall into place. After the install & reboot, things played nicely, but upon the second reboot, it did not. It got to the loading Zenwalk bios screen and stopped. It would not boot any further! Now I'm not sure if the problem was the install or something to do with the gparted hard drive problem. I can answer better that after I use gparted from the 4.8 disc.

That's all for now!
Pat
