Zenwalk Core 6.2 is ready !

Like the plain 6.2, Zenwalk Core 6.2 is mostly new code (nearly all packages have been updated), and the base system has been slightly modified (EXT4, kernel 2.6.30.5). The switch to LZMA for package compression has reduced the overall size of the ISO image (170MB).

Here's a summary of the important changes :

- Kernel 2.6.30.5
- LZMA compression for packages
- EXT4 as main filesystem
- Faster boot (tuned init scripts)
- bus auto-detection in the installer (will choose appropriate kernel depending on the architecture, sata, pata, scsi)
- latest dev tools ...

In brief all you need to create a personalized build platform, your favorite desktop environment or a clean and secured server machine.

Install takes no more than 10 minutes on a modern box : so don't hesitate to try it out now !

Have fun !

Thanks to JP, thanks to Zenwalk crew !

Core is a nice start point for setting up a server for those who don't want / don't have enough skills to pick up only necessary packages from Slackware (during 'expert' installing mode).

To install xfce in a root-terminal: netpkg xfce

First though, I would recommend to update netpkg, and thereafter the whole system so in all:

netpkg netpkg
netpkg upgrade
netpkg xfce

You are asked for a mirror upon first netpkg run, so choose either a current(stable) or snapshot(testing) mirror. If you want bleeding-edge, then snapshot is okay PROVIDED that the snapshot changelog is monitored for important changes/isues etc.

Note, please search the Zenwalk manual, wiki, forum and google for such questions in the feature, as therer's a wealth of info and answeres allready out there.
