speaking of gnome-keyring. IMO it is one of those things that it is just unnecessary. I see no benefit on using gnome-keyring

all system admin tools use gksu , and gnome-keyring is very useful for gksu.

Just installed RC2. Great!

Two big wins:
* NVidia legacy driver of 96 series was installed successfully. No problem at all with new kernel or new xorg, it "just works".
* I've spent about two hours but figured out how to configure grub2 to remember my last choice of OS to boot (yes, I do use Windows too). It was hard to find this in Internet, grub2 seems to be poorly documented yet. Maybe it's worth put a howto in the Zenwalk wiki?

One minor lose:
* grub2 configuration created during install (I've choose "Simple" in menu) has not include option to boot Windows. This was fixed by running sg2conf, but users migrated from Windows may became confused. (And then I have rewrote grub.cfg by hand, but average user isn't supposed to do this, isn't he?)

Just installed RC2. Every thing appears to be working properly except this:

ALT+Ctrl+Backspace does not restart X server.

I know.

There's no way I can find to make it work.

However : you have to know that Xorg devs want to get rid of this feature to prevent Windows users from crashing their desktop ;D

EDIT : please try Alt+PrintScr+k

Is this the case ??
Code:
The stanza "DontZap" in the Section "ServerFlags" provides that the key combination  "Ctrl-Alt-Backspace" to restart the x-server still works.
If you do not want that option, set it to "1" (instead of "0") or delete Section "ServerFlags" completely.

Install RC2 bug report :

  1. Kernel package NOT installed. I had to boot on a live CD, mount the ISO and install it manually !
  2. Before password entries, loadkeys don't work ( error : /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap : no such file or directory ). Have to be fixed too, I had to choose a simple password, boot on init4 then, change my password to a new azerty based one.
  3. GDM still use US keyboard layout layout after a fresh install, maybe cause of point 2, maybe not. JP said how to fix after install but a user don't have to do that, should he ?
  4. Init 3 or less still use US keyboard layout.

Just on fresh install. Maybe commands can fix all of these errors but they have to be fixed for the stable release right ?!!

That's better wait one more week and have a nice release instead of be hurry and leave some errors in the ISO =)

Another thing : could the nano package be installed by default ? vim & co are not easy to use for basic users.
Another one again : the xz package should be included in the netpkg one or many as dep' but a relation must be established ; many packages are now available only with the txz compression.

At the startup of the setup : what specific kernel parameters did you provide ? (retry without any kernel parameter, just hit enter when you boot the CD).

This is specific to you : you have to tell us what you did "special" to get this result. I can't do anything without more details about your specific configuration (which keymap, etc ...).

Yes, it's related to your rc.keymap problem

Yes, it's related to your rc.keymap problem.

Please provide all the parameters you provided to the setup.

Thanks

No extra kernel parameter !! I have just hit enter !!

I did very standard installation (from pre-mounted directory via grub fromiso boot option)

I have choosed fr_FR.utf8 keyboard layout in the setup install menu, and then after reboot, just before choose password.

EDIT : grub fromiso option :

Code:
menuentry "Install ZenWalk from ISO" {
loopback loop (hd0,6)/feng/zenwalk-6.2RC2.iso
  linux    (loop)/kernel/bzImage isofrom=/dev/sda6/feng/zenwalk-6.2RC2.iso
  initrd   (loop)/isolinux/initrd.img
}

And then to boot Zenwalk :

Code:
set root=(hd0,5)
menuentry "Zenwalk 6.2" {
linux (hd0,5)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda5 ro resume=/dev/sda5 splash=silent
initrd (hd0,5)/boot/initrd.splash
}

This is not the standard way to install, and now I understand that all your problems are normal results of the install method.

Please try booting from the CD, then tell me what happens
