well after being waiting for help and got none, I decided to reformat my hard drive and reinstall zenwalk on the whole hard drive, everything went smooth reformated as ext4 and installed and still lilo didn't install at all, I am presented with a grub error 21 at boot time, since i am a stubborn person I reinstalled again 4 time with different file systems, ie. ext3 ext4 and so on, still lilo did not install, nor to mbr, nor to root, so untill now I am still waiting for any help before I decide to keep it or dump it., I am willing to install zen to my whole drive.

now my question is what repository should I use for senwalk 6.2, current or snapshot ? please give some advice, I don't want to break my zenwalk install with the wrong repo.

Rene, if you haven't wiped Zenwalk yet, please try

in place of the later Intel drivers.

It works for me, and if it works for anybody else, we should keep it.

Great news! Is this a "drop-in" replacement? I mean will it work with the X included in the 6.2 releas?

Could someone please post the md5sum on the download page?
That could save people a lot of grief later.

Yes. Remove any other Intel driver package. xorg.conf should specify intel. Putting Option "AccelMethod" "xaa" in the device section may also help (older but less broken algorithm).

I don't know if it will work with your hardware. Xorg support for older Intel cards has gone badly wrong.

Happy to report that this version works on my intel video. For completeness sake, it's an Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

Unhappy to report, that it seems, that the fresh 6.2 doesn't seem to work for a number of users (intel i8xx and i9xx GPUs?) without some serious detective work and medium knowledge of how your sytem's internal's work. Too bad :(

These cards DO work with the generic VESA driver included, but the detection will configure it to use the borken intel driver.

Jessie,
You should have dropped by the Zenwalk IRC channel for your questions. Sounds like when you tried to install, using Lilo, Grub2 had not been removed from your MBR. Lilo does the same thing when installing Grub2. Those instructions are in the Zenwalk Wiki>How To's. You just needed to clean out the MBR, then the install would have gone without problems. I remember the first time I used Grub Legacy what a time I had. Thought I had killed a hard drive! Anyway, glad you got it all going and let us know if any other help is needed.

@ markc and Intel legacy users:

Yes, "Option" "Accelmethod" "XAA" is very desirable with the legacy Intel driver on 865G at least. Performance is very sluggish otherwise. Ie, redraws like the system is under a constant load.

I don't suppose by the way that any of the old Intel users has gotten DRI to work with that legacy driver markc supplied (see above)? Fails to allocate texture space for me.

When I bought this system I did so partly due to the "well supported on Linux" Intel video. That'll teach me. Too much corporate involvement I suppose, translating to no support for old hardware. Nice demonstration of that particular difference between corporate and community efforts: it doesn't need to be closed source to be crap. The X.org Intel driver has been broken on older hardware for ages now.
