Hi,

The Zenwalk 7.0 ALPHA ISO is available for testing !

Main changes are :
- deprecation of HAL toward udev/GIO
- XFCE 4.8 alpha
- Most packages updated to new versions

Please test this alpha release, we need a lot of bug reports , specially for XFCE (http://bugzilla.xfce.org/)

Download points :

No menu. Both in panel and in desktop.
Thunar very slow to show up
I end whit removing xfce-plugins and install the old xfce-apps.
I have no places but I can lunch thunar.
Funny but looks fast and responsive.
Anyway has nothing to do whit new xfce.
Very noise I have to Fn-NumLK at every reboot but is un-checked in start-up services.
I have to run "/usr/bin/glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas" to make work evince and brasero.
Whit Brasero I have the old problems. Switching to udev 151 at least I can unmount the cd as user.
Whit default udev I can mount install cd only as root,
browser chromium also run only as root.
The rest sound good, I had only to downgrade aspell-does not find my italian and Exaile I prefer the old version,
just personal.
Intel driver should be update. 2.91 is not more good
2.13 is O.K does not need modeset only use normal vga console.
Thank you for your work.
Whish you and everybody there Merry Christmas.

for the test purposes prefer fresh install. But if you followed changelogs 100% and created new user etc... (xfce-desktop > zenwalk-desktop) it is almost the same. But again for "bug" reports fresh install is the way to go. :)

Compiling a new version of gthumb I had many
at make
"trying to use kernel-headers as user............"
gthumb was installed.
About xfce the only pkg that I add is xfce-apps-4.6.2 -64.2 to have it run
but as I said is not the new xfce but maybe is there the problem.
I reinstall xfce-plugins.

Same observations here as given above, made by Franco.

You can create a menu by adding the proper file. I used alacarte, from the repos, to make a menu. It requires gnome-menu, which seems to be missing from it's deps...

this is where we are heading to , towards the final iso, but this is just alpha, just what was announced earlier, if we and all people find "bugs" that is great, but offensive posts doesn't help us.
Be patient.

pardon - didn't meant to be offensive!
But releasing an alpha-iso with so many complains in the forum is stupid - please fix it on snapshot first!

Excuse me, do u have ny idea what alpha release is? Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_r ... life_cycle
You cant always rely on developers to do all testing and release the final stable product. Its Open Source, so every hand is necessary to get going. Hence it has to be on the forums. Atleast it has been mentioned as ALPHA. So its a warning!

I need i915.modeset=1 in lilo.conf to have a running bootup, and to Xserver working. If not, xorg.log claims : EE : fatal error, no modeset in kernel.

Numlock : active at first boot, and still active after modification in params.

Thunar is very long to start at first time, and after, it seems to be launched normaly. But fron bottom panel, I have a little window with : Failed to execute the preferred application for category "FileManager". Le changement de répertoire « /home/jpgu » a échoué (Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type).

That all for the moment...

Could you someone please add "Zenwalk 7.0 alpha" under the "Recent News" menu on zenwalk.org main page ?

Also one of my few quick thoughts on this new version:
When we can finally have some installation progress bar? :-)
