Zenwalk 7.0 BETA is ready for testing !

Zenwalk 7.0 will be a milestone in the evolution of the distribution. Still desktop and multimedia oriented, this release brings several major changes at user level and system level. At user level, the XFCE desktop environment has been updated to the brand new 4.8.0 version, providing many improvements and new features. Coming with a new VFS, XFCE 4.8.0 allows CIFS and SFTP shares browsing through the file manager, making it mostly feature equivalent to Gnome while still a lot faster. The new panel has good support for transparency, and is packaged with many plugins out of the box.
At system level Zenwalk 7.0 BETA comes without HAL, which has been completely replaced by udev/GIO.

As usual most packages have been updated to the latest stable version :
    Openoffice 3.2.0
    XFCE 4.8.0
    Icecat 3.6.13
    Icedove 3.0.4
    Kernel 2.6.37 with BFS scheduler

Here you can find some informations about the new XFCE 4.8 Desktop : http://www.xfce.org/about/news/?post=1295136000

We hope you'll like the new artwork, and will appreciate the consistency of the desktop layout, as well as the performance of Zenwalk 7.0. Please report any bug you can find so that we can work on it to prepare the FINAL :)

Have fun !
JP

I am trying to install to a scsi disk. Previous ver 5/6 zenwalk install CDs have worked by booting scsi boot option. The 7.0 beta install CD seems not to find the scsi disks in my system when booting with scsi. Is the aic7xxx module missing from the install kernel? Is there a work around? How do I get the install system to find my scsi disks?

Looking forward to testing the 7.0 zenwalk and xfce 4.8.

Hello,

I am testing Zenwalk-7.0 BETA. Everything appears to be ok except hanging at bootsplash on almost every alternate boot. If I reset my system and then reboot it boots properly.

Looking forward to testing the 7.0 zenwalk and xfce 4.8.

Check with this command

Code:
modprobe -l | grep aic7
