Appearently, Nouveau should now be used instead of nv now, but I found out that the Nouveau module is not activated at the kernel config. Now that Slackware provides it, it should be activated on Zenwalk as well!

For my nv problem, it occurs when nvidia is installed. When the module is not present, nv can load.
Now I'd like to try nouveau to see the improvements.

It is GREAT to see the development of release candidates ... can we expect to see RC2 this weekend or early next week?

Best regards,
Claus

I have installed 7.0-RC1 on a multimedia computer, this machine has no network, printer, or scanner, so I haven't tested those areas yet. Here are the outstanding issues that I've found so far:

1. Geeqie (installed from extra) will come up but not display any photos, just shows a box with a red X. I also tried compiling from source, same result. I tried ristretto as well, same thing, this leads me to believe the problem is not with geeqie but something underlying.

2. At logon time I get the message "There was an error loading the theme Zen70" followed by "Couldn't recognize the image format for file '/usr/share/gdm/themes/Zen70/background.jpg' I suspect this is the same issue as (1).

3. Strange behavior in Terminal. It appears to not be writing out the screen buffers. For example, when a compile finishes, it doesn't print out the last few lines (and the command prompt) until you hit Enter again.

Other issues I've run into that have been resolved satisfactorily:

1. Alsa wouldn't come up, complained about not finding a ladspa plugin (I have !default in asound.conf configured to use the 10-band eq from the caps suite). Compiling caps from source (rather than using the package) solved the problem.

2. A similar issue with xfburn, the package wouldn't run because it didn't recognize libexo as valid, worked after compiling.

So far, I've successfully used alsaplayer, xine, mplayer/smplayer, avidemux, kdiff3, xfburn, and many windows programs running under wine. DVB-S tv works fine. I'll probably wait until the remaining issues are resolved before installing it on this (online) computer.

It works under JACK with no issue. Can you give me the code for using this plugin with ALSA, please?

My asound.conf looks like this (this is playback only):

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm ladspa
ttable {0 {0 1}}
ttable {1 {1 1}}
ttable {0 {2 1}}
ttable {1 {3 1}}
}

pcm.ladspa {
type ladspa
slave.pcm hwout
channels 10
path "/usr/lib/ladspa"
plugins
[
{
id 1181 # Amp
policy none
input.bindings.2 "Input";
output.bindings.2 "Output";
input.controls [ -10 ] # 10%
}
{
id 1181 # Amp
policy none
input.bindings.3 "Input";
output.bindings.3 "Output";
input.controls [ -10 ] # 10%
}
{
id 1773 # 10-band EQ
policy duplicate
input.controls [ -1 -3 -1 -1 -1 -3 -3 -3 -3 -3 ]
}
]
}

pcm.hwout {
type asym
playback.pcm {
type plug
slave.pcm "hw:DA2496"
}
}

So I pasted your code into /etc/asound.conf and no problems so far.
What is it supposed to do exactly. What shoud I be able to do with this configuration?

All this does is take the output signal, duplicate it to a second pair, eq it, and lower the volume of one pair by 10 dB (this is necessary to avoid overloading the device it plugs into). The plugin it couldn't find was 1773, the 10-band eq. Plugin 1773 is part of the caps suite of plugins. When caps is installed, it creates only one file in /usr/lib/ladspa called caps.so. This is different from the behavior of swh-plugins, which creates one file per plugin. I don't know how ladspa finds the individual plugins within caps, and I don't know why the caps package, caps-0.4.4-i686-64.1.tlz, worked without problem on Zenwalk 6.4 but not on 7.0. After compiling from source it worked.

The hardware it uses is an Edirol DA-2496, similar to the M-Audio Delta 1010LT, with 8 audio channels in and out, plus midi and s/pdif (which shouldn't matter so far as configuring plugins is concerned).

So if I have sound, that means it works on my system, right?

Yes, if you have sound at all, and you are using any caps plugin, then the caps suite works.

For the record, this my package, in fact. That's why I needed to know what could be wrong, but as I don't have any issue myself, I can't see the point of rebuilding it.
