netpkg gnome-core gnome-libs gnome-nautilus xulrunner nss gstreamer openldap krb5 cyrus-sasl

netpkg gnome-core installs:
gnome-libs
gnome-nautilus
libstartup-notification
alsa-libs
libaudiofile

xulrunners needs:
nss

an installation that is found comes up for:
openssh
openssl

gstreamer

openldap needs:
cyrus-sasl

krb5

so theoretically type:
netpkg gnome-core xulrunners gstreamer openldap krb5

for the lazy maybe...

Just a quick note to inform you that you have saved another Zenwalk install with your gnome packages.

I started with Zen 2.6...curiosity drove me to install gnome...loved it!!!  Fast, stable and easy on the eyes too.  Just what linux should be.

Then I installed 2.8...troubles with X or Xfce started....added gnome...troubles went away!!

Along comes Zen 3.0...well it's gotta be better than 2.8...X and desktop instability should have went away....right????...............Good choice;  bad guess....X started crashing worse then ever, and more frequently.  Till yesterday.....I downloaded and installed Zeq's magic gnome packages.....machine has run since yesterday without a hiccup.

Dunno what or why.....and not interested in finding out.  All I know its Zenwalk w/Gnome 2.16 is going to be staying on this machine for a good long time.

Huge thanks to you Zeq.

regards...gord

Hi canuck.farmboy,

It's really great to hear that you've found your solution with GNOME ... but the X-crashes also sounds very very strange. Is there some application that you tried to run when X crashes? - what are the conditions before these crashes. I believe installing Zeq's GNOME packages doesn't touch upon the basic X ... that's why I am sort of assuming that the crashes are caused by some actions you do (or applications you use). If you report more exactly what went wrong, maybe it could help the rest of us to improve Xfce or X or whatever app kept crashing on you.

Best regards,
Claus

No matter what mirror i have active when i run this command, all but one of the packages is "not found" by netpkg. Does this still exist?

Thanks

a couple of the icons were on top of each other, so some partition icons were hidden, but it's a good gnome implementation. Quite responsive.

FIXED the icons and reposted.

Thanks for this guide. I installed gnome 2.16, however, I can go to themes, but cannot change them. I get error messages about certain daemons not starting.

It feels like something is missing. I got gnome through gslapt. I have not modified my gslapt repo. It points to zenwalk repo. My question is which zenwalk repo should it point to from gslapt?

I installed all of the components mentioned with the exception of
libstartup-notification, and openldap {I got openldapopenssh instead}

Anyone stumbled on any symptom like this?

Ok, figured out my problem. I needed to point to a mirror in the "current" category (I had been using "stable").

Installing now, looking forward to it!

Although the .tgz files say 2.16.0 and if you see the about gnome icon it says it's 2.16.0, if I look at the about boxes for nautilus, gnome-terminal, gedit, etc... it's still 2.14.3 and by looking at some things it's still 2.14.3.  The custom application launcher is not the one for 2.16.0.  What's going on?
