Hi,

The 7.2 ALPHA ISO is ready : http://download.zenwalk.org/people/jp/ALPHA/

Au menu : XFCE 4.10 and Kernel 3.2.5, and new artwork, new unified settings manager, ...

See the Changelog : http://www.zenwalk.org/modules/news/art ... toryid=127

As usual, the alpha version is a community release, it won't be announced on public websites. The beta should come as soon as we have enough feedback , so please test it :)

Have fun

JP

Everything appears to be alright except this problem: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=39057. This is a serious problem which should be corrected before making a final release. Is this problem only on machines having Intel graphics? I am not sure.

Do we need to recompile Qt?

But I suspect the problem may be with XFCE 4.10 and not in Qt since all Qt applications are opening properly on the same machine in Gnome.

On my system which has Intel graphics card, I have to select Standard VGA and remove nomodeset option in Lilo for Xserver to start.

Just installed to thinkpad T420 with intel graphics.

-X start ok with this machine with i915.modeset=1 kernel option. Just a note, if you add extra kernel parameter during setup like I added i915.modeset=1 to lilo, it still leaves "nomodeset" parameter in place
Code:
append="i915.modeset=1 resume=/dev/sda5 nomodeset splash=silent"

now it still works ok as nomodeset is ignored in this case, just looks not so good and confusing.

-after user setup and X configuration the "hit Ctrl-C within 5 seconds to abort" doesn't work.
-on GDM wallpaper there's empty white pixel lines on both sides, I don't like it, and don't know if it's on purpose on that wall or mistake
-after login to desktop wallpaper is xfce mouse stripes, I think it should be the same as in GDM?
-there's oclock and xclock on iso and oclock doesn't seem to do anything but a white circle on my screen and very hard to kill ;D
-many icons missing from menus, galculator, streamtunet, HTTP proxy.........
-top panel clock and logout(and if I add any plugins) tooltips show on lower right corner of my screen.
-inside brasero doesn't show any tooltips, just empty gray boxes
-inside some of the apps, tooltips also show lower right corner of my screen, for example Notes

-suspend works really fast!!!

Other than that , feels snappy. \D/

Just a FYI:

As an alternative to lilo parameters, i've used -to good effect- the following:

Code:
If you want to use /etc/modprobe.d
you have to create a file call video.conf and write
options i915 modeset=1

That was in a previous zenwalk, but i'd expect that to still work. Adding a file to /etc/modprobe.d seems a bit less intrusive than adding a lilo boot-option to me.

last time I checked : it worked, I will take a look

Not confirmed, I tested in several resolutions including wide screens

Not confirmed : you've got a bad configuration, not the one from ALPHA

These stupid gadgets come from Slackware packages

Not confirmed on ALPHA : your icon theme may be broken.

Yes, a known bug, seems to be a xfce4ui bug : already notified to XFCE devs, we can just hope they fix it

Edit : it may be a GTK bug, I noticed also on apps not linked to XFCE (does it happen in GNOME ?)

Thanks :) maybe a GTK3 bug ? (Bipbip what do you think ?)

Nothing to add really.
ctrl-c never worked in my system
icons brasero is all fine here
----------------------------------------------
for intel graphic I think this post is very useful
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=37608&p=153788&hilit=intel+graphic#p153788
and still good
-------------------------------------------
Personally I add
i915.modeset=1 quiet pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1
to liloconfig
I don't need anymore normalvga (ctrl-f2 works)
I have to delete xorg.conf to scroll whit my mouse
and I load intelfb that by default is blacklisted.
the boot is very clean and seems faster.
-------------------------------------------------------
xfce 4.10 setting manager is a good reason for update, vertical red line is helpful when you drop icons from menu to panel.
Many thanks to the xfce team
----------------------------------------------
As soon I add more apps probably I will post again, for the moment
spellchecker in libreoffice (never solved)
style zen give a problem
example= if I move the mouse on NM icon on panel to know inf about my connection appears only a brown rectangle and I cannot see any information
no problem whit other themes
my wirelesss are all detected. Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------------
-top panel clock and logout(and if I add any plugins) tooltips show on lower right corner of my screen.
please note that now panels number are 0 and 1
just choose the right one.

@hyperion
This is zenwalk 7.2 alpha,,mdsum checked.
just rebooted again(first reboot after install), and after reboot all menu icons are present, but still have the xfce mouse wallpaper, and I had all the time my second screen connected and I noticed that in settings file (.config/xfce...)there's screen1 and there it says this wallpaper name, for screen0 it says the Zen72default name(i am on windows now and write from memory) so maybe this is the problem, will test on monday with no second screen attached.
I will post the white pixel line on monday if nobody else confirm earlier.

where ever you move your mouse tool-tips are shown on low right corner
try to move your arrow on your bookmarks
Maybe is a bug, maybe is a will. People like toys.
-------------------------------------
I will get rid of NM as soon as possible for example.

OK,

I'm not using any Qt application myself, but I have installed Lyx and reproduced the problem.

I have no way to perform any diagnostic about this problem (Qt doesn't provide any usefull debug log ?). Haven't found anything about it on Internet (strange for such a bug).

XFCE has not confirmed yet that the problem has anything to do with XFCE (although it may have).

I will gladly modify anything bad in my packaging, as soon as someone tell me what.

Thanks for your help

JP

I have this starting Pysol from terminal. I don't think that Pysol depends on qt (tcl tk deps) but behavior is more or less as LYX

Whit xfce 4.8 everything works.
There is no more need of xfce-utils?

Hi Hyperion,

Can we revert back to XFCE 4.8 until this problem is solved in XFCE 4.10?
