Hi,

Zenwalk 7.4 BETA is ready for testing.

In this release you will find :
    LibreOffice 4.1.3
    Gimp 2.8.6
    XFCE 4.12GIT
    Thunderbird 24.1.0
    Firefox 25.0.1
    Kernel 3.10.20 with performance tweaks

Several applications of previous Zenwalks have been replaced : Mplayer is now the multimedia player (instead of Totem), Lxdm is the display manager (instead of GDM), Xfburn is the CD:DVD burner (instead of Brasero), Geeqie is now the image viewer.

First repositories (more to come) :
- http://download.zenwalk.org/people/jp/7 ... 4beta1.iso
- http://ftp.nux.ipb.pt/pub/dists/zenwalk ... 4beta1.iso
- ftp://viking.zenwalk.org/people/jp/7.4/ ... 4beta1.iso

Have fun ! (and please report bugs ;) )
JP

Brilliant, against all odds (hw failure, lack of devs), Zenwalk is still rolling. Good work, Gentlemen.

I love this distro... mainly for its speed, low resource usage... and ultimately... for sentimental reason.

Downloading now.

Very pleased to see Zenwalk alive, thanks for all the work done! Don't know what it is with Zenwalk, but I felt at home as sone as I started using it.
Now for the bad news:
- When using graphical application which needs root permission, the password isn't remembered when I have the boxes 'remember password' and 'ony for this session' ticked (which seems to be the default).
- Right-clicking on a .txz and 'extract here' doesn't work. (haven't tried anything else). Open with archive-manager also not responding.
-The problem I had with Cairo and Gimp is still there, some tools from Gimp's toolbox, like resize, rotate, use Cairo and are very slow responding, the dialogbox is empty for about 10 seconds. This is using a large picture, 8 MB or so, and a computer with 2 GB memory. With 4 GB memory it goes faster but is still annoying. I solved this in the past by rebuilding Cairo and then the problem is gone. But I can't figure out why. If I could I would have volunteerd as a packager....The only difference at a glance I can see, I don't have cairo-sphinx but cairo-trace. I posted a topic about this problem on Zenwalk 7.2, Bipbip responded but we never came to a real solution. And it's gone with the server-crash...

I hope these are personal hick-ups, but it is after the fresh install.

Please launch gksu and file-roller in a terminal and tell me about warnings.

File-roller gives:
Code:
sheila[~]$ file-roller
file-roller: error while loading shared libraries: libjson-glib-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

gksu opens with the 'run program' dialogbox without warnings, after entering a program-name I get:
Code:
sheila[~]$ gksu
Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files
Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files
Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files

If I run xnetpkg like this I get these and some more warning, but I think they have to do with xnetpkg?
Code:
Constant subroutine Netpkg::LC_CTYPE redefined at /usr/share/perl5/Exporter.pm line 66.
 at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/ZW/Netpkg/Netpkg.pm line 21.
Prototype mismatch: sub Netpkg::LC_CTYPE () vs none at /usr/share/perl5/Exporter.pm line 66.
 at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/ZW/Netpkg/Netpkg.pm line 21.

OK, glad to help, but I am still puzzled about Cairo, how can it affect only me, for fun I install Zenwalk on every computer I can lay my hands on (these are not brand new of course) and everywhere the same problem... I seem to have solved it personally, but it keeps nagging on my brain...
If nobody else complains please leave it for what it is, maybe it will solve itself in the future with some update... :)

Yes, I noticed. At the time I rebuilt them both with my restricted bit of knowledge, and the only thing that had effect was rebuilding Cairo. What baffles me is that nobody else seems to have the problem, or am I so impatient..... l!!! At the moment I'm trying to find out what Cairo-sphinx does. Well, there are a lot of things I'm trying to find out.
I don't mean to stir up any trouble, I was just trying out the ISO without installing anything extra and thought I'd report all my findings.
About GKSU, I've never used the keyring in the past, never ticked that box, has that changed perhaps?
