Last night I successfully install Zenwalk 7.4 on my 4GB CF card, my poor man's SSD.
I slice into 2 partition, 3.6GB for / and 200MB for swap. It works like miracle.

Now I'll try to remove any unused package so I can get more room for other apps. Any idea what apps/package that I can remove and do no harm to the system?

I have removed Libre Office, Gimp, Thunderbird, and sane/xsane but I think I need a little more space.

look in the application menu, locate apps you don't need, and ask here for information about how to remove it ...

You can remove any app : firefox, thunderbird, etc.... if you don't need it :)

Cheers

Just noticed that on 7.4, GMusicbrowser doesnt play with gstreamer support though gstreamer is installed by default. I had to configure this app to use Mplayer to play.

Tried installing gstreamermm package off Extra repo. No use. It complains missing plugin with gstreamer, not sure what it is.

For me it worked to put the gstreamer output device in 'settings' to 'alsa' in stead of 'auto detect'. The settings of gmusicbrowser that is.

Yep looks like its not installed by default. Well it should have if Gmusicbrowser is supported OOTB with gstreamer.

Actually i too had the same settings here, but still no. Probably you might have installed gst plugins earlier. I do not have those, mine 7.4 installation is still very fresh here.

Yep, I have the whole lot of gst-plugins installed. I have a list of extra's I have to install after a fresh install, like libre-office extra and base, they are also always a cause for a headache when you forget about them. ;D

Pulseaudio seems to be needed by cairo-dock, which I use, wonder why.....

Everything gnome put pulseaudio.
Not an expert in cairo-dock, anyway when I did use, just to try, I did remove pulseaudio. Looks like is working normally. I have only 2GB ram
and in my settings I disable compositor. I have xcompmgr just for fun.
About audio I have
gmusicbrowser (mostly to play ramdon) never had a problem
exaile plays everything + streamripper + streamtuner
vlc
sound recorder (gnome-media)
gnac (sound converter) it will install mostly of the lib in audio

http://download.zenwalk.org/i486/trash/ =streamtuner and streamripper
"you have to add streamripper as plugin to exaile and configure streamtuner to play with exaile-
shoutcast radios the one that does interest you more or you listen in the browser or just download the link and drag and drop in exaile.

http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/peopl ... pkg/14.1/= vlc containing packages capable of AAC/MP3 encoding).

What I mean is to use each app for something not one for everything.

finally I remember Zenwalk addict looking for chromium

http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/peopl ... /chromium/

needs
http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/peopl ... /pkg/14.1/

Sorry, don't understand that one.... ???
You might be right about cairo-dock working without pulseadio, just installed it on Zenwalk-7.9, it seems to be working and no sign of pulse. But I've only just started, I'll do some searching about that.

gstreamer isn't needed by gmusicbrowser (although it can use it)

I think the original problem was that the default setting of gmusicbrowser is to use gstreamer. You have to change the settings to use mplayer instead.
