i just tested the new build.
In XFCE theme is not picked up when you login. I have to manually switch between themes for it to activate.
In fluxbox, there's no batti or tilda in menus.
Otherwise all for me works. And I can connect without rootpw using this wicd.

@franco

Thanks for the details, I'll have a look and see if I can find out something. Sounds like this might not only related to the Live-System, an installed system could also be affected. What if you mount the partition manually like that:

Code:
mount -t xfs -o rw /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1

Thanks for testing.
What do you mean with no xfce theme is picked up? My live system is behaving the same as the installed master system.
Are you sure it ist different in an installed snapshot ZW?
Regarding the fluxbox menu, thanks for letting me know.
BTW, actually since we now have to use DVD anyway as ZenLive doesn't fit on a 700MB CD-ROM anymore, I thought in the future, we maybe can ship the several desktop flavours in ONE live DVD, where the DE of the live session depends on users choice at the boot menu.
If we create a base system module that fits all and then separating the several DE in several live modules, this can be done, but for now it is just too much work (especially for testing and troubleshooting) for someone who is doing the ZenLive as a one man project...
Since I like fluxbox, expect it to be part of zenlive from now on. ;) (Maybe you as the maintainer of the ZW open box edition, have some tips to enhance the fluxbox flavour in ZW?) Interesting question would be, which packages must be removed to get rid of all xfce components but not breaking other packages deps?

@franko,

I can't reproduce the error with ssd however I have not the same hardware. I tested with an eepc 4G which has an internal solid state disk.
Maybe it is specific to your hardware.

If possible, can you please also test, if the problem is the same if the filesystem on the ssd is something else than xfs (I hope it is not an xfs bug).

Thanks.

I did not have any problem whit PartedMagic so I end burning again the DVD and this problem has disappear.
Does not freeze anymore.
Desktop does not show the partition.
In filsystem is not in /media but in /mnt.
clicking on the folder just open the folder (empty-no files) and does not ask for root pw.
Using disk utility works and the folder show the files.
Sorry to make you spend time.
Nice to have at boot the graphic card working (Intel)
Connection is very slow. compare to my normal one. but I mostly use Chromium and wicd is the new version.
In Libreoffice my italian spell works where in the original does not, even installing the missing pkg
.Sounds like we gona have a good ZenLive.
Thank you

So you recreated the partitions on your ssd using PartedMagic and then it worked?
BTW, did you checked the md5sum of the downloaded ISO previously?

franco wrote:

Yes, because any drives of the hostsystem (besides that one from where the live system is booted) are not mounted automatically.
One of the reasons you just experienced, so not automounting internal disks of the host is. the safer choice. The partitions are detected anyway during the inititialization of the live session and a fstab entry is created allowning an ordinary user to mount and unmount the partition(s) without beeing root. So it's a feature!

Yes, that is specific for zenlive, again there are reasons for it and it is a feature. ;)

franco wrote:

So you mean, it shows the folder structure but not the files in the folders? So we still have an issue with mounting internal host drives?
Please confirm.

Well, it's good to know, something that didn't worked in Zenwalk Standard works in ZenLive, but I wonder why?
The only reason I can imagine is that ZenLive comes with extra packages not included in ZenLive Standard, such as libreoffice-extra, libreoffice-math, libreoffice-base and several libreoffice language packs inc. Italian (needed in your case)

Thanks again for testing and the feedback.
I am glad you like ZenLive 7.2beta2. Have fun using it, and also don't forget to show it to your friends and family. So we get more testers ;-)

I'll have a look.
Thank you very much for kind reaction. And providing a new beta iso.

Wish to confirm that I got stuck with no remedy. Even <CTRL><ALT><DEL> nor <CTRL><ALT><F2> didn't work.

Thank you!

Uhm, so if the screensaver activates it freezes your system?

1) In the new beta2 ISO the screensaver should not activate per default, except you reactivating it in the xscreensaver configuration.

2) I heard about lockouts when xscreensaver becomes active for an user with an empty password (which is the case for liveuser) but in that case switching to tty by pressing alt-crtl-F2 or killing xserver pressing alt-crtl-backspace should still work, if your system freezes, something else is wrong.
But like I said, in beta2 xscreensaver is disabled by default.

Please confirm if this is still an issue for you.

that is how it looks on live when i login, in xfce snapshot it is normal. Also one thing i just noticed that in live xfce when i double tap to drag windows, it works, but in normal snapshot xfce it doesn't.

for fluxbox, openbox, you can remove all xfce*,ffmpegthumbnailer, terminal, garcon, tumbler, thunar*, xfdesktop, exo, xfconf, xfdesktop, libxfce*, zenwalk-desktop.
And replace those with batti, pcmanfm-mod, older thunar, volumeicon, hal, sakura, or something similar.

Now because I'm living in china, because of network troubles/slowliness/china greatwall there's not going to be openbox version. Atleast by me. If someone wants to do it it's ok for me.

EDIT: also with live cd, as with normal snapshot install, if I plug in my external monitor and boot up, I get the xfce mouse stripes wallpaper as default. And if I boot without external monitor, i get the real default wallpaper.

My fault was that I did not check md5sum.
No I did not recreat or change any partition or filesystem.
My Zenwalk partition was dedected and open using PM or any other Live cd. (please note that all this distros work direct as root-but also Ubuntu)
So I end downloading and burning again ZenLive.
---------------------------------------
To connect I need a pass so what I do normally is to open my partition, open the file where I wrote the pass and copy to wicd.
Normally you just click on the folder, a notification appears asking for root pass and that's all.
There is not in ZenLive such thing so you have to mount the partition using a command or using disk utility. First of course you have to find
where is in the file system.
-------------------------------------------
Clicking on the folder before to be mounted as root just show nothing.
and no notifications I repeat. (In this action the system was freezing-before not now)
--------------------------------------------------
Libreoffice problem and italian aspell are really strange.
My system is config in English, USA keyboard. I already posted this problem and anyway solved using aspell from Slackware and LO from alien-bob. Never need italian language pack to have the spellchacker
just xxx.oxt of any language using LO extension manager.
Thank you again.

hello again,
-xfrun4 doesn't work with alt+f2 here, I didn't test if it's the same with JP's iso(EDIT, it is not working there also).
-from desktop right click and try to launch Terminal doesn't work, I didn't test is it's the same with JP's iso(EDIT it works there, have to give another try on live to see it working or not).

other thing, I made a stripped down version of openbox-desktop package, to work together with zenwalk-desktop package, it's called openbox-desktop-live and you can find it from here
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... h-72.1.txz

This is how I tested it
1. boot to text mode, install openbox, obconf, fbpanel, lxappearance, openbox-desktop-live
2. create new user
3. init 4(it login to root xfce desktop)
4. logout -> choose your new user and openbox session
there you go,

known issues ,
there's double entry for zenwalk.org on desktop(easy to fix),
there's double entry for set as wallpaper on thunar right click menu(i could change the other name to "set as wallpaper(openbox). Note, needs also imagemagick and fftw to work.
no wallpaper (easy to fix),
openbox menus are not completed(easy to fix).

I think it will work with liveuser if you put it on iso and just boot.(didn't try yet).

What do you think?

Am no longer sure the iso caused all the problems. It appears my nvidia card is no longer reacting the normal way. Many times I am only able to boot my machine with "nomodeset" which gives a very low resolution. Seems I have to replace the card or buy a new machine.

Maybe I have to apologize for all the trouble caused.

Anyway wish to thank you for your kind help.

Regards.

I have polished the beta2 a bit taking all the feedback I got in account. It also has all the latest updates from snapshot.
This one will hopefully the last one before the final release.
It's available from here:

http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... .2-dvd.md5

Thanks for testing. Dual monitor setup requires xorg.conf or xrandr configuration and is not expected to work out of the box.
But anyway thanks for the tip.

Xfce help is only available online afaik. But newest snapshot updates will be included in next beta or RC.

thanks for informing, very good, will fix it using your package. can you pust your package to fifo please?

I don't think that is a big issue, do you know how to improve that?

stillborn wrote:

No bug, I removed them, since I prefer to organize my folders in my way and expect other users to do so as well.

let's wait gmg update pcmanfm, I'm sure he will do it :)

for the systray icon spacing, i can have a look tomorrow, i think there should be a way, like in this picture it is normal for my eyes(between pidgin and nm)
Image

for the external monitor thing, it is just attached and shows my laptop screen as double, no xorg/xrand tweaking, and what i tested on my laptop, with this new conf it works, even if you don't have external monitor.
