Computer: eeePC-900. Zenlive 6.4 running from USB flash and I want to install Zenwalk to hard disc. Starting Menu-System-Install ZenLive 6.4 and get window "Enter the administrative password". Entering "ZenLive" (as per manual) and answer is just "Incorrect password... try again". OK, trying again, enter password with/without ", login as "root" with password "ZenLive"..., but no success yet. Any suggestions?

I read your earlier post:
I have ZenLive 6.4 running smoothly from my flash stick so there is no any problem with Unetbootin, flash stick or ZenLive itself. Problem is just when I wish to install Zenwalk from ZenLive to my computer it asks administrative password and does not accept "ZenLive".

Previously I used CD to run Live so I did not see this issue of password not being accepted.
Out of curiosity I download ZenLive 6.4 and use UNetbootin to prepare USB stick.
Then booted up laptop, just like what I saw using CD, then I followed your step:
Starting Menu-System-Install ZenLive 6.4 and get window "Enter the administrative password". Entering "ZenLive"
I do not see your problem. the password can be accepted.
So I install to hard disk, no problem also.

Two points to take note are:
I formatted USB stick with FAT32, and
I select from boot menu ZenLive ( somewhere at the end when you scroll down).

After pondering a while , I think you might be using Default ( the first line from menu) because it is intuitive to many people to choose default.

So I decided to play with it, using ZenLive text mode,
when I typed ZenLive, I saw YenLive
Haha.. I suspect keyboard mapping problem. Z becomes Y and Y becomes Z

Thus rebooted and I chose Default, and after it booted up I did this again:
Starting Menu-System-Install ZenLive 6.4 and get window "Enter the administrative password". Entering "ZenLive"

Now I saw your problem. Cannot accept password

So I do this:
Type YenLive, to get ZenLive
and it worked..
SO please try it to see how it goes at your computer with the same USB stick.

If you need a usb version do it the way I instructed you here:

viewtopic.php?f=46&t=28952&p=139210#p139210

Or use the installer to create the usb version, all other methods will not be officially supported!

I could not install Zenwalk from the USB flash, so I just borrowed USB DVD/CD writer, burned ZenLive to CD and installed it through the same DVD/CD writer without any problem. Previously I used just Ubuntu and it's clones and Puppy. And so far Zenwalk looks great, with excellent choice of software and small enough for my 4 GB of eeePC.
Thanks a lot for your patience.

Did you read my postings? Did you tried to follow that instructions? I still missing any reply what you tried so far, you just was saying it didn't worked and it did not accept the default password...
We asked you to check keyboard settings - you did not mentioned if you tried that
We instructed you to boot zenlive from usb skipping the 03-zenlive.lzm and 04-langpack.lzm modules - you did not tried that obviously

That kind of fuzzy posting doesn't help other users if they face the same problems, it eaven doesn't help the developers to understand what actually causes the issue you mentioned.

I still guess it is wrong keyboard mapping, which keyboardlayout you was using and which language (locale) setting you was using?

But anyway it's good you could install ZenLive 6.4 finally.

It's an old post, I know sorry. Just wanted to say that this "issue" still exists in ZenLive 7.0 (can't test it on the 7.2 beta since it doesn't start).

The above statements in the posts from wayne128 are correct. It happens when unetbootin is used for the usb-stick making (this is handy when you don't want to start from cd first). Unetbootin makes it's own bootmenu and the default boot-option on top gives a keyboard layout issue where y gives z and viceversa.

If you scroll down in the boot-menu you get the right zenwalk boot-option, but the root password still doesn't work since the procedure is changed in ZenLive 7.0:

Did ya read my postings?! I was mentioning several times that:

a) The old manual is no longer valid for ZenLive

b) unetbootin is unsupported, Zenlive features slackware-live-scripts which offers a method to create bootable usb stick from the running iso, and I also explained how to convert the ISO to USB manually in severeal treads

c) The root password is disabled in ZenLive since release 6.4 for security reasons, if you need root access you need to set your own root password using the rootpw= boot parameter

d) ZenLive 7.2 is shipping with a new ZenLive manual, so read the new manual, read the ABOUT file in the root of the ISO and if you still have questions you can ask here in the forum.

Last thing, ZenLive 7.2 beta has been tested very well and if you have to report it doesn't work for you , then please tell me details about your system configuration, how you tried and what in particular did not worked. Just saying it doesn't work for me or it doesn't boot on my system does not help me to fix remaining issues.

And So far converting the ISO to bootable USB stick is for advanced users only, and believe me it's gonna work if you do it manually like I described in the zenlive forum, but I haven't tested and won't support unetbootin!

I get the impression you think I did something wrong with my last answer. I just gave my findings on the subject since it was not clear from the last answer (yourself), if the info was correct etc. Anyway:

a) So why is it still on the website. Better give no info and direct people to the forum for questions than give wrong info.

b) I did use it and it did work with version 7.0, apart from the problem mentioned. I don't ask anybody to fix it, but if users have information about it, it's not wrong to make that info available, in my opinion.

c) Well I pointed to the topic where that info is (link).

d) Why is it not uploaded to the section on the website? Ah, because 7.2 is not final yet...

I didn't test it fully (also because it was being booted from an unetbootin made stick, so that could also make the issue). This topic is not about that, so I don't post it here.

[Edit:]
Ok it seems 7.2 didn't start because of Unetbootin. Better not use it again. A shame, since it seems such a nice program...

I wonder when the time comes we (can) download usb-image files, which can be "burned" easily on any usb-stick, instead of still using these cd/dvd -roms (which are less suited for live-booting operating systems).

Well, the reason why the old manual is still online is because the whole zenlive team left and I have no access to take the old manual down!
For the same reason I cannot upload the new manual which is far from beeing compleate.
I asked people for support on updating the manual but no one was actually helping out.
Zenlive is only continued because of myself needed a zenwalk based live sytem and wanted to learn about building live systems.
It is more or less a one man project.
If you want to improve feel free to provide me good and professional beta test reports and an updated documentation.
If you don't, don't complain.
Btw, unetbootin is for noobs! Conversion of any linux live cd to usb can be easily done without such a fancy tool.
From a zenwalk user I expect some skills.
Discussion over!
