Dearest Zenwalkers,

A little warning: due to the recent crash of zenwalk.org, we are restoring things. The repository is back up, and functional, but contains pre-Zenwalk 2.2 packages. Therefor, we severely recommend not using netpkg (unless, maybe, for installing stuff that's not on your system yet, e.g. from the 'extra' category). Under no circumstances, do not perform a complete upgrade with netpkg! It will break your system. Already one user we know of suffered from this problem, and we do not want that number to grow ;).

We are still in the process of updating the repository. Until further notice, we would like you to ask not to use netpkg, nor the repository.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your attention!

Hyperion has updated the repository to near 100% it seems.  I'd wait for his blessing before using upgrade-all or upgrade-new, but it's looking good.

Nope - Uncle Steve - it is looking better, but not good - please wait for an official word before using it.

Zenwalkers,

I did a throrough scan on the repositories 2 hours ago and reported the results to the project lead.

Here are the results:

Packages:
10 Missing
16 Outdated

MD5 Sums:
13 Missing
16 Outdated

The sections with the most work needed are "extra" and "server" packages.

The core packages are now for the most part restored.

I and the rest of the team are working to get the remaining packages restored asap.

Please wait until a team member gives the "bat-signal" (All clear sign), hehe

It won't be long, we're almost done!  ;)

I must change my system, this kind of support via netpkg - "dont use it, it will break your system" - not acceptable for me. What happens if I don't read this?

I will wait for clearing up the main objectives of development. I don't want the latest builds, I want a small, stable system.

Angelique, the ISO provides a full and stable system. As for the rebuild of the repository, we stated many times this is exceptional... We just had a major crash of our server, and changed hosting services. Ask the users, you won't hear many complain about the stability of Zenwalk. As for every upgrade, you should check before doing it... Be it Windows, be it Linux, there's always a chance it will break things.

:'(

So sorry, I said

If this is a ghetto
I'm in it with you
If it's just a prison
I'm locked in it too
I tried to leave you
but after all that you had said
I went to pieces
when I should have shouted and screamed
instead
So sorry, I said

Your powers of persuasion
those quizzical eyes
have tired and tied me
with innocent guile
I meant to walk out
after all the tears we'd shed
I should have stalked out
gone and painted the town bright red
but instead
So sorry, I said

How tough it gets
Don't talk to me about it
To pay off your debts
I worked on overtime
and you say you've never believed in luck

If you need a reason
consider me mad
An old retainer
loyal and sad
I bought my freedom
after all that we have shared
I couldn't leave you
Think of the skins I'd have to shed
instead
So sorry, I said
So sorry, I said
So sorry, I said

;)

What changes are being made to the backup system so that we don't have to wait so long to get things running again if a server crash happens again?

All data will be mirrored on multiple servers (daily rsync)

And additionally : backed up here on my server.

I think it's enough ;)

In a letter to me JP reported that:

Quote:
Thanks for the feedback, now the repository is 95% ready, no risk to
crash anymore...

... but
Code:
netpkg update-all
just broke my Zenwalk system.
