I just did a full upgrade to snapshot from a fresh install of 6.4 standard, and there are 2 entries for an audio mixer in the multimedia submenu.
There is "Mixer" that opens the xfce mixer, like in the panel.
And there is "Volume Control" that looks like the gnome mixer (not that I would know).

gnome-volume-control is installed by the gnome-media package.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
I should have said gnome-volume-control is IN the gnome-media package.

So I'm assuming options are either the 2 can be separated, or the .desktop can be removed.

That's a way better solution. Nothing depends on it.

But...

This package is also where "sound recorder" in the multimedia menu comes from. I never got that to work, but maybe there is a reason to keep it.

More importantly (for me) is gstreamer-properties, which is in this package, because without that I am unsure of how to set a v4l2 webcam as the default.

Yes indeed so gnome-media needs to stay in ISO for gstreamer-properties

ADDED this in the 'gnome-volume-control.desktop' file

'OnlyShowIn=GNOME'
