I tested on a desktop HP with intel card and I'm in fallback mode too.
I will test with fedora 15 to see if gnome-shell works.

Hi Bipbip,

I have tested Fedora 15 on the same hardware. Gnome shell works properly. Ubuntu 11.10 beta also works properly on the same hardware.

I had a look on fedora 15. They use mesa version 11.
I will try to build it.

I found the solution on my desktop pc with intel card \!D/ \!D/ \!D/
I built mesa-7.11 but it should work with the mesa package present in our repo.

I had this in my lilo.conf just below label :

Code:
append = "i915.modeset=1"

or try to add the option on the driver :

Code:
echo options i915 modeset=1 > /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf

Hi Bipbip,

I tested with i915.modeset=1 option. Gnome 3 still starts in fallback mode. I think we need mesa 11.

To use the lastest mesa package, you have to install llvm package too(not sure if it is needed to use mesa but to build it is needed).
llvm package :
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... 6-72.1.txz

mesa package :
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... 6-72.1.txz

I installed both the packages given above. I also installed back pulseaudio which I had removed while checking recording.

I deleted old guest account and its /home/guest. I recreated guest account and tried starting Gnome 3. But I see only desktop background without any menus. This is my .xsession.errors:

Can you post the result for dmesg | grep drm ?

It is just to check if modeset is ok now.
I suspect a missing dependency.

Can you list all the gnome files installed on your pc ?
ls /var/log/packages/*gnome*

After installing these packages I rolled back to mesa-7.10.2 and gnome-shell package on the repository. Tried logging into a new user account. But Gnome starts in Fallback mode only. This is my .xsession.errors:
