I've got Mint and Debian 'side by side' on my machine - both OSs listed in the start up menu.
I then installed Zenwalk in a separate (spare) partition, and of course it uses Lilo - which I've tried both to install and leave out during the installation process.
The thing is, when I left it out, I got the original menu with only Debian and Mint. 'update-grub' did not find Zenwalk.
Installing Lilo during the Zenwalk process gives me just the Zenwalk menu.
How can I get a menu with all three OSs.
I want Zenwalk to be my primary OS but I want to be equally able to start any of the other two, should I so wish!

Ollie

I found one suggestion here (posted by tuubaaku):
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/instal ... -help.html

I'm afraid I've only dual-booted windows and zenwalk, so I'm not sure. But if you are still having problems post back and I can also try some tests - I've got a spare pc I can play around with. I could also give it some tries on this end.

Edit: Note that I have to assume Tuubaaku's post was Grub, not Grub2. If you're brave, you could try re-installing Grub legacy with the supergrubdisk (at risk of losing everything - but it's pretty easy to use SuperGrubDisk to boot into a OS even if you've ruined your MBR).

I have a similar problem. I recently installed Zenwalk 7.0 Openbox (good work btw guys!) and would like to run it alongside Mint 11 LXDE, which I also have (but not installed at the moment).

The trouble is that there's no easy way I can see to do this. The Zenwalk boot manager won't pick up Mint automatically, or vice versa. I'm thinking of getting a DOS-based boot manager like XOSL to see whether that would help.

Best,

CP.

Did you try to mount the zenwalk partition under debian and launch update-grub2 ?

From Mint, using grub2, you could run sudo os-prober to see if any other OS is picked up. If so, run sudo update-grub.
Update-grub uses the script /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober and takes the output of
those commands and puts them into /boot/grub/grub.cfg .
For manually adding OS, you have to put entry into /etc/grub.d/40_custom, you should not alter grub.cfg. You'll have to google to see what exactly you have to put in /etc/grub.d/40_custom
My entry in grub.cfg looks like this:
Code:
menuentry "Slackware Linux (7.0) (on /dev/sda3)" --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
   insmod part_msdos
   insmod ext2
   set root='(/dev/sda,msdos3)'
   search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 7c85167c-4748-4d11-975c-25adeb8ee501
   linux /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3
   initrd /boot/initrd.splash
}

Perhaps you could use some of it for the 40_custom entry.

Olligab: if you have to reinstall grub2 from Mint, here is a howto:

Hi Thanks for the tip, I'll try that the next time I install Mint. For the moment though Zenwalk's working fine so I don't feel the need to add anything.
