Bib, you do a fantastic job! It is credit to you - you keep Zenwalk afloat. I appreciate deeply your hard work and it is your work that keeps me from claiming Zenwalk as dead ... no, it is still alive, due to your efforts. I hope that a new release will come soon.

The reason why Zenwalk does not receive proper attention / is dropping, is because we do nothing to gather peoples attention.

Some people recommend that Zenwalk project evolve without much attention, but then people don't participate.

For more success / more attention from people, be shameless. Forget about prudence. With attention comes people, comes more activity ... remember, some people will do whatever they can to drag it back down to nothing - saying Zenwalk is perfect as is - and when everybody has left, then they will also leave.

Thinking improvements and changes - is part of life for a vital Linux distribution.

/Claus

Just noticed this post -- haven't been around the forum and distroWatch.com for some time now -- and would like to second Claus' appreciation and congratulations not just to bipbip, but to the whole ZW developers' platoon. I am deeply fond of ZW as a Linux distribution, have been a keen ZenWalker since version 4.2 and also have my own explanation as to why it's seemingly losing popularity: in a nutshell, the predominance of other mainstream (mostly Ubuntu-based) distributions.

Despite recommending ZW to a number of people (mostly non-newbies) over the last few months, only one eventually followed suit. The reason lies in the perception that 'bigger' distributions enjoy a larger support base and wider functionality. I humbly disagree on either ground, ZW lending itself as a striking counter-example: it's nowhere as big as say Ubuntu but it's underlying community is plainly fantastic and it's got all an explicitly minimalistic distribution needs; however ultimately people will lean towards the most reassuring solution, and admittedly many Linux distributions aren't so clearly different, especially when performance is so clearly dependent on hardware considerations and end-user requirements.

Thanks and don't worry about me :)

I hope I will provide a gnome-3.2.2 BETA ISO next week. I fixed all bugs that I found annoying.
Gnome-shell now supports the gnome-shell-extension from the gnome website. It is really great.
With the latest mesa and libdrm packages, Zenwalk gnome 3 seems working really good. :)
Concerning the planning for XFCE version, It depends on JP. :-\

Yes, but maybe it would be a good idea to collect and launch a Zenwalk release prior to the new major release (with new Xfce). This way everything could be planned put together - and new ideas maybe discussed. A Zenwalk 7.2 before an 8.0 release would be quite good ... not necessarily with all the Live, GNOME and so on releases.

New version of xfce is already here. My snapshot is very stable.
I think that both xfce, gnome and openbox should wait for at least
a stable 3.2 kernel and maybe the new xorg server.
And as the iso is groving start thinking to a DVD iso for the future.
The team did a great job, let them finish at the best.

Hi Franco.

I sure hope for CD-size ISO.

... but kernel 3.2 ... OK.

You say next Xfce is there ... but official Xfce is still 4.8, as far as I can see. What is the next, 4.10 or 5.0?

Best regards,
Claus
