I have installed Zenwalk 7 on a spare partition. I did not install Lilo, because I did not want to overwrite MBR and was not shure installation would allow me to install it on ZW partition.

How can i boot ZW7 from my grub Menu.list?

I tried:

title Zenwalk
root (hd0,8)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.21.3 root=/dev/sda9 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.splash

with many variations, but boot hangs at:

"BFS CPU scheduler v.0.363 by Con Kolivas"

Thanks

The kernel version in current (zenwalk 7) is 2.6.37.4 and not 2.6.21.3 :-\

In the concerned menu.list I typed the right one. My post is a cut/past from a web site.

Anyway I suspect the problem is that Zenwalk 7 does not fit hardware of Samsung NC10 (the netbook I installed it on). Not a matter of grub code.

Can you try to start in single user mode ?

Code:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.21.3 root=/dev/sda9 ro Single

Is it a SSD or a normal hard drive ?

To finish your installation insert the zenwalk install cd
at the boot prompt write
ata root=/dev/sdaX rdinit= ro
were X is the number of the partition where you did install zenwalk
example /dev/sda3
check if you like and your hardware is working and you want to keep it.
---------------------------------
Using your distro try this

grub-mkconfig
copy to /boot/grub/grub.cfg
-----------------

sudo grub-mkconfig

It will create a grub.cfg
check if now there is zenwalk
If there is just delete the old and use the new one
