I installed Core, rebooted andf looged in....
I tryed startx but nothing happens, talk about barebones !!! :o

I got a look at the Wiki but at 1st glance there is no topics about what i should do now to install the packages to have a functional Linux system....maybe i'm looking in the wrong place(s)...where is the info about what i need to do next ? yes, you guess it, i'm a newbie as for barebones installations :D

TIA,
AJSB

Hmm, you are aware that you've installed the 'non-X11' edition of ZenWalk?

Installing a 'regular' ZenWalk would -my guess, nothing more- be closer to what you want.
'Core' is more aimed at users that want to build their very own 'tailored' system.

Yes, i understand that...and that was exactly what i wanted but was expecting to find more or less easely documentation about how to proceed next to build my own tailored system....i can't find it....again, i'm sure that i'm looking in the wrong place....there must be somewhere that info....
that's what i need to know.

TIA & Regards,

Well, netpkg is the tool through which u can download any thing off net from Zen repos and install it. Or else use wget tool to download and build u r own stuffs, the way u want.

Hi,

I don't know any how-to on this topic ... but if I wanted to add an XFCE environment to Core, I would 'netpkg xfce' and install all the related packages ...

Regards.

not really ... ;)

If you know what to do you can customize it at will, if you don't you can at least try like that .... (anyway it's easy to do it again if you're not statisfied ...)

Thanks for your replies !

I assume that core includes the basic packages/tools to compile source code ?
If so, then i can , beside download zenwalk packages with netpkg, download source code of my favorite apps from origin URLs of the developers with wget, compile, make the packages and install them ?

BTW, is it also possible , after all done like i want, i make a remaster of the final "product" ?

TIA,
AJSB

I confirm : that's possible ... especially if you build your own packages of the software you compile/install on your system.
