Gnome 2.20 is out, but we're still in 2.18. We'll definitely need someone to update gnome at some point. I guess it's OK for now, being one version behind for about a month is not too bad, but it would have to be updated eventually.

But I think you can package ekiga, based on gnome 2.18. I don't believe there would be any problems there.

For the moment, I think that Zenwalk Gnome is dead ...

The maintainer was Zeqadious and he has announced that he left (a while ago), so GNOME is unmaintained = free to be picked up.

Best regards,
Claus

I'd rather think it's lying dormant for a while. Someone *cough* might pick it up when he actually finds the time. ;)

afaik zeq has built a prerelease for gnome-2.20 before he left, same with xorg-7.3, the software build-scripts were there but not yet tested and complete.

what exactly do we need to compile for gnome 2.20? i would do it myself, but i am not totally confident that i could carry this out without help. i am not a really big fan of gnome, but i just cannot see that 2.20 is not available in zenwalk...

The biggest problem is always getting the dependencies right :). If you ask zeq nicely though you might inherit his scripts, which is some great work. That makes it easy to start out with.

I expect to have some time for gnome 2.20 by the end of this week. Tsuren, should I go for it then or do you want to have a look first?

I started working on gnome 2.20. I'm going to be building it on top of the new xorg 7.3 kindly provided by axxium. :)

You can monitor my progress here. I'll be populating it with packages and buildscripts as I make them.

Gnome 2.20 is almost ready. You can find packages here: http://users.zenwalk.org/user-accounts/gapan/gnome/

Be warned that there are no default settings installed right now, so your desktop will look rather empty, no panels, no wallpaper, no metacity theme etc...

There are a few things that I need to sort out first, mainly trying to fix some bugs and Zenifying the desktop.

Things known not to work until now are:
- gnome-control-center doesn't have a menu shortcut
- xscreensaver has to be launched by hand
- gnome-search-tool applet is not working (it is just an entry in the applet list)

The gnome desktop is expected to have a Zenwalk facelift and to look something like this when it's finished:
