Post subject: Packages to be removed from the repos
PostPosted: Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:16 pm

There are some packages in the repos that are unmaintained, have fallen behind in updates and some are not even functioning at all. If we don't find someone to update them they will be removed from the repos. Here's the list:

mono: old version, unmaintained - OK
gtk-sharp2: old version, unmaintained - OK
banshee: old version, unmaintained, depends on mono and gtk-sharp2. I think we have many alternatives for this and nobody really cares - REMOVED
banshee-daap: old version, unmaintained, depends on mono and gtk-sharp2 - REMOVED
f-spot: not unmaintained but newest version can't be built because it requires a newer gtk-sharp2 than the one we have, so if gtk-sharp2 goes, f-spot goes. - OK
gbrainy: mind game, not unmaintained but depends on mono and gtk-sharp2 - OK
bmpx: doesn't work on snapshot, maybe even current (can someone that's running current test this?) - REMOVED
libsexymm: the only package that needs it is bmpx. Maybe we'll keep it until it gets old - OK for now

There may be other packages that should be added to that list. If you think some other package is obsolete too, reply to this post. If you'd like to maintain some of these packages, also replay to this post. ;) If noone decides to maintain them, they will be removed, certainly before 5.4 is released.

These two are mine, but I think they can be removed:
ude: the dev hasn't maintained it for a while and it can probably be considered abandoned.
childsplay: though it is light, I think gcompris would be the more preferred one for something similar and better.

I think we can keep both for now. ;D
ude is the latest version anyway and it works, maybe it's not updated because the dev thinks it already does what it's meant to do perfectly!
childsplay is only a minor version behind, as long as it works there is no real reason to remove.

Hi,

I've built packages for mono 1.9.1 and gtk-sharp 2.12.0, but cannot connect to the Zenwalk User Repository at this time, and therefor cannot upload the packages for testing... :'(

As soon as I can upload the packages to the ZUR I will do so.

Thanks maximus, I will try them as soon as I can. That means that f-spot and gbrainy will stay in the repos. :)

Lets see about the others now. ;)

No problem! I did it for f-spot - I don't know of any other photo management tool for gtk that comes as close to digikam, it'd be a shame to lose it.

Regards

I contacted the packager. If there's no answer, we'll remove it.

Package is OK for me. You might want to remove the "packaged by xrado" in the slack-desc" ;D

Another Python program forgot in the update: gPodder. I see mfludder is the packager, but checking his profile reveals he hasn't been around here since december. If necessary, I'd be willing to take over gPodder.

Furthermore, should we make a wikipage for packages that need to be rebuilt every time the interpreter (ie. Python and Perl) is updated?
