Hello all,

In order for an operating system to be operational it must have some critical components. One of them isn't actually the manual, but a translated OS.

Well most work is done from the xfce team (100% for many laguages) but we are missing our homegrown tools.

Maybe JP (oh the mighty one) can open up the tools and create some guidelines for the poor translators to contribute on this too?

It can go on further, like when you are choosing the language on xfce (or even at the installation!!) scripts will do some things to the system that will help with the localization (most I think you'd help me to find out), like adding to xorg a second language(the one selected at install!!) with the alt-shift toggle option.
Most people coming from windows have been used in these options by default and it's a hussle if you don't know what xorg is or how it works, to get it done.

Things that we take them for granted.

Yes, I found out that some days ago, a guy called and asked for linux support, I told him we didn't support linux and he said he will speak directly to the company linux.

I'm awaiting your opinions and feedback on this.

Cheers,

Vangelis

Is there some place on the internet where you can download most common translations in computer software to a very big number of languages? ... This would make things much easier.

Maybe look at Debian for some of the translations.

Some projects like Mambo, XMMP, beryl, LyX, Mesa, acpid, apt and others use this service ;)

_PN_boy, yes launchpad is cool, just one button on your toolbar, translate this app..but..

It changes the way Zenwalk is working right now, I don`t know if it can be used only for one application but it`s quite a transition just for the translation. It`s JP`s decision again.

And also launchpad is canonical`s creation and I`ve seen people around (here) not really like ubuntu`s way.

It can be used to anything ;) including just translate applications, via web. Obviously the code has to be adapted because those apps aren't ready for internationalization, they are showing the text statically.

That doesn't invalidate that it's a great way for translation applications, fast and simple. I don't think anybody should pick up on something just because doesn't like something in it, we should always see things as an all ;)
