Hi,
I have installed Zenwalk 7.0 on my Acer Aspire 5738z laptop. I am trying to connect to Tata Photon Plus (Huawei EC1261) usb modem without any success.

Output of lusub -

Quote:
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 12d1:140b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. EC1260 Wireless Data Modem HSD USB Card

Have installed wvdial. My /etc/wvdial.conf -

Quote:
[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = AT+CRM=1
Stupid Mode = 1
ISDN = 0
Phone = #777
Username = internet
Password = internet
Baud = 9600

Now when I issue the following command as root -

Quote:
wvdial

I get the following output -

Quote:
root[~]# wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT#777
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT#777
CONNECT
--> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt.
~[7f]}#@!}!}!} }9}"}&} } } } }#}%B#}%}%}&[08]s+
}'}"}(}")W~
--> PPP negotiation detected.
--> Starting pppd at Sun Jul 31 12:27:00 2011
--> Pid of pppd: 3520
--> Disconnecting at Sun Jul 31 12:27:00 2011
--> The PPP daemon has died: pppd options error (exit code = 2)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> I guess that's it for now, exiting
--> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 2)

I have tried different options in wvdial.conf but I am unable to connect. Any suggestions?

Thanking in advance,

Aditya Pratap V.

Did you install usb_modeswitch ?
If not the case, try to install it.

Look here : http://linuxers.org/howto/how-set-tata- ... lucid-lynx
Here some other explanation : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1491351&page=3

Hi,

I am using photon+.
You would have to install usb_modeswitch ( I installed it from source, but now there is a package available). You have to edit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1\:1446 as mentioned in one of links provided by bipbip. After that you can use wvdialconf and wvdial as usual.

Sorry for the delay in replying! I had not logged into zenwalk all these days after posting my querry. I thought I would be intimated about the replies via my registered email. Apparently, I have to activate the email-notifications!

As for my problem, it got sorted out when I disabled my wifi connection. Now wvdial connects to Tata Photon Plus! Thank you all :-)

One querry though, in other distros like Ubuntu, the NetworkManager applet automagically configures the network. I am curious to know why is this functionality missing in zenwalk ? When I right-click the nm-applet icon in zenwalk it doesn't show mobile broadband connection as it does in Ubuntu.

Sorry for the delay in replying! I had not selected the instant reply notification feature on this site and had not logged into zenwalk ever since.
After posting the querry I found that by disabling the wireless interface, wvdial connected to Tata Photon Plus without a hitch! Thank you all for your kind suggestions!
