Thought I share this...some of you may already know but for those who don't...

I got an ATI Radeon 9200 in my Compaq nx7010. glxgears usually gives me about 1700 FPS (using the ati driver since fglrx doesn't work on my card).

In an attempt to increase this I googled around and found http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man4/radeon.4.html. I ended up putting the following into my card section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Code:
Option "EnablePageFlip" "on"
Option "AGPMode" "4"

I got a 43% :o increase to approx 2430 FPS. That's pretty good I think  :).

That's great. How's real life performance?  glxgears is not a true benchmark.

In fact I just tried those settings on my Dell with Gforce GO 7900S.

And using the test on http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/ben ... nchjs.html, the result increased with more then 5 percent!
(3,4 seconds now, fastest on the list  ;D)

I know this is also not a good test for a videocard, but I defenately do feel it is more crispy, and the speedtest is giving a better result, so realtime improvement is noticable.

The strange part is that I am already using the NVidia driver and thought this was using the best settings possible (autodetect).
So why this is giving better results for a NVidia card is a miracle for me....

Thanks  ;)
Jan

I didn't notice any improvement at all.  Oh well, it's ok.

I got some better performance with the Composite Extension, that's nice. Had som issues draging Windows around the screen but now that is a little bit smoother (using both drop shadows and transparancy). It is perhaps not the best speed increase but it's something...every little bit counts :-).
