I had this problem and googled around/asked people in #zenwalk but no one had any solution.

I performed the setup process as shown in the how-to but the problem remained.

If anyone has this problem or develops it in the future please note I solved this by chmodding everything in /var/lib/mysql.

That solved it for me anyway, if anyone has this problem make sure you try it.
