To upload the package for testing, you should first (or at least I do) confirm that the package works and is in good order as per the Zenwalk package rules. For a dependency like gst-plugins-farsight from your earlier posting, someone else testing your uploaded package would certainly be able to check that the package rules are being followed. But if the program for which the dependency is being packaged does not exist, how can they test the functionality of the software? I am guessing it is related to this audio/video conferencing software: http://farsight.freedesktop.org/wiki/ so I would package that as well (if it doesn't already exist).

I find the ZUR to be very easy to use, the maintainer did a great job there!

No problem, I'm guessing you misunderstand me--when I said "so I would package that as well (if it doesn't already exist)" I mean - "so if I were you I would package that as well...."

Sorry for the confusion ::)

And there's a post generation function, that saves lot of typing, normally I still slightly modify that generated post.

Ok another small doubt here.

One of the libraries needs Doxygen as a dependency (it did showed me when make step) so i isntalled here. So i am sure it wud not work when its installed from binary package.

So in Zenbuid file, where shall i specify this dependency? Is it here: extradepends=() or where? Plz with an example.

what do you mean?

buildpkg has an automatic dependency detection. BUT it is not perfect, and it is possible that sometimes it misses one or two dep packages. Then you use extradepends=() to manually insert the dependency package names that were not detected by buildpkg.

Yes thats what i meant. I dont know if buildpkg does detects doxygen as dependeny or not. If it doesnt, then how to add in that section line?

Just this way?

extradepends=Doxygen

or
extradepends="Doxygen"

Or simple i think is manually adding it to .dep file. What do ya say?

EDIT: BTW, buildpkg didnt detected Doxygen as dependency in .dep file. So i gotta add it some where???

to check dep file... in the same directory as the newly created tgz, you will find .dep file. open it with a text application. if deoxygen is not there add it in ZENBUILD like this

extradepends=('deoxygen')

After that, do i have to buildpkg -zx again?

One more silly doubt. After doing buildpkg -zx, i get dep, build files, tgz, and src and pkg dir.

I know i have to submit .dep, .md5 and tgz files to repo. What should i do with src and pkg dir?

Yes, buildpkg -zx again - that's what I do anyway.

I use the -zx options to buildpkg as it lets me check the package just by browsing the pkg directory. You can use -zX (note the capital X) which will remove the pkg and src directories automatically after the package is built.

And to easily add the posting to the forums directly from the ZUR, click the little link shown in this image on the "View Package" page:
