I read it but you don't expect outsiders to dig into the wiki right?
zenballer talks about notifications on the main page that will keep the interested with us.
The first thing that I do when first visiting a project page is to look for the latest news.
I think that it's important.

I installed the 5.4 B1 on my HP Compaq nx6325 laptop with the Dutch localization.

I encountered no install problem whatsoever.

Only had to install the Dutch localization for Iceweasel 305 from a snapshot repo.
The wifi card is a Broadcom 4312, and using the XP drivers I used the ndisgtk tool to add the Windows drivers and rebooted. Upon restart the wifi lights came up and I could setup my wifi networking. I prefer this way of setting up my wifi because the b43-kernel drivers tend to cause frequent drop-outs with this card (in all distros I used on this laptop so far).

Apart from those, no extra tweaks were needed.

Using it for a few hours only is not an accurate measure but if what I expercience now is the base of the next final, I think that the foundations for a decent 5.4 are laid.

Could someone verify the md5sum? I downloaded zw5.4B1 (12/24) from ibilio ftp (could not find md5sum).

My md5sum is: 0d54695c4926df0c6393b98172ca0076

Install reports 21 fatal errors, all in: /var/log/mount/zenwalk/xap
begining with lightning-0.9-i486-54.1.tgz through xterm-237-i486-54.2.tgz

Startup error report (x2): could not finds gnome, will try failsafe xterm, can't find xterm.

Yes.
The word "main" in the "main page" counts for something, fellas.
Don't put common people off.

SoleSoul, thanks for elaborating my point.

Streamtuner defaults to g-mplayer (for streams) but gnome-mplayer is installed instead.

Changing the defaults to gnome-mplayer for m3u files and streams solves the problem.

Zenwalk 5.4 is great i like new Xfce, but there is no Task program like in 5.2. :(
New artwork is also nice but in my opinion in Zen 5.2 is better.
Ohh I almost forgot there's new option in Network Manger (wicd) to configure your wired network, which is also very nice.

Open Icedove and you'll get nearly the same task management features as Evolution :)

Zen-5.4 is working fine here! Great work developers! I feel Zenwalk is the best distro for ever.

I have not been able to get any of these beta releases up and running in VirtualBox since the very first beta release that was announced via the news letter. All of the releases posted in this thread have crash the VM right after exiting out of "Create Users" dilalog box during the initial boot setup.

May I ask why PAM was included? One of the main features of Slackware and Slack-based distros (and I consider this one as such) is the absence of PAM.

What does this mean for Slackware compatibility? Do you plan to diverge more from Slackware, like Ubuntu diverges more and more from Debian?

Note: This is not meant as criticism, I'm just curious in which direction Zenwalk will develop.

Hmmm... I was reading about PAM here: http://www.installationwiki.org/PAM and on the surface it seems like a good thing to have in a system.
