Have search for this in forum search without finding anything. When a repository isnt replying my netpkg is freezing. Even the terminal version gets weird but mostly its the graphical interface.

My problem is that if i have selected a repo and that one doesn't reply to me for a while. Then i can't use netpkg. This wouldn't be a problem if there was no automatic conversation between netpkg and the repo at the start. And because of the freeze i cant change repo.

Even the terminal version freezes but i can fix this with netpkg mirror command

Can i remove or stop netpkg from conversating with a repo before graphical interface is fully loaded?

By editing netpkg.conf file u can avoid netpkg looking for mirror every time u launch. I forgot which part u gotta edit. And probably since the whole packages.txt will be dowloaded by netpkg, may be ur network is slow or the mirror is. Hence its taking too much time.

I agree, try Zendo and the newly released shell/cli companion program ZPM!

Will Zendo replace Netpkg in future releases of Zenwalk linux? Or is it unsupported by the boss?

Zendo might be better but it seems like a bit of a hassle to have to change/add an package manager when using an distro.

For now i will try to adapt zenpkg to my needs. Thanks for the tip though...

It's an official zenwalk package, but netpkg will probably stay as the out of the box iso package-manager, but there's no problem to use them alongside, I'm doing it for long now and it works great. There's also no reason to get any trouble as they use the same /var/log/packages to store installed package information and per default even the same package cache. None of the features conflicts with any one of the other. Netpkg has orphan detection possibilities, whereas Zendo has some other features like the nice Save/Restore State, which can be used to reinstall the packages which were installed when you saved your configuration. Quite nice to give kde a try, so you can entirely remove it and its deps afterwards.
