Unfortunately, I don't have a CD burner, that's why I use this way.

Something else : with the BETA, specials keys of my keyboard was enable, now since the RC1, they aren't, why ?

Tested RC2. Went quite well too.
  1. Separate /boot partition is too much for grub2 autodetection.
  2. Even faster bootup than in 6.0 \!D/ restart/poweroff now takes longer though.
  3. Firestarter is crap, is it even maintained anymore? How about a ufw/gufw combo instead?
  4. Still very Gnomecentric with Brasero, OOo, Totem, Evince etc. Aren't Xfce/LXDE apps with Abiword just as sexy?

I have modified the installer to allow this kind of install :)

Understand, that RC2 stage is a little bit late for big changes, but latest stable kernel is 2.6.30.5.

Not that I understand or need changes since 2.6.30.2 (which was announced to be in ZW 6.2), but I experience weird messages complaining about some acpi / hdd errors while booting (1 of 5 times, approx). Never had it before with ZW 6.0. It may be explained with just upgrading system from snapshot and not doing clean install. And I didn't see others complaining about anything like that.
It also happens on Samsung R560 laptop which is rather new from hardware viewpoint and may have some issues with its acpi support as well.
So, I can live with it after all.

And can't help waiting for new release :-) Would like to see it as soon as possible.

By the way, are there any plans for going 64 bit? May be Slackware going 64 bit officially can help?
Zenwalk is designed to run well even on old hardware and I have ZW 5.2 on PIII with 192 mb ram, but IMO ZW is much more than OS with modest hardware requirements. It's the best I've seen in many aspects.

It's just humble request, I appreciate all the time and efforts that are put into ZW. Thanks, it's a pleasure to be here.

I will publish an RC3 soon, then you can do a clean install, and tell us :)

It has been discussed on the ML lately : we will move to 64 bits as soon as 64 bits is mature enough (it's not at the moment).

RC2 looks very nice but nevertheless I found some problems:

1.
grep complains about missing /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap file while setup is configuring X. The selection of keyboard layout is ignored anyway until I call keyboardconfig again manually after setup has finished. I use german setting.

2.
Zendo: Mirror is preset to a current repository. This causes dangeourus problems with upgrade process, i realized the X server can not start anymore and downgrades of XFCE packages.

3.
Zendo / Netpkg / Kernel upgrade: In /etc/netpkg.conf kernel is blacklisted as package. But Zendo ignores the blacklist of Netpkg, so Zendo is upgrading kernel anyway. Both tools upgrade kernelheaders ... There should be more consistency.

4.
LVM: My volumes are "NOT available" after each boot. In RC1 this was fixed. See therefore ...

Nice to have:

5.
Using compiz as window manager. But I think this point is a more general problem.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24397&start=0

6.
Avahi browser feature request:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24238

7.
Installing Zenwalk from an USB stick: It is possible to use UNetbootin to create the image on the stick. Before the setup can install the packages, the stick has to be mounted and the directory given to setup. so it can find the zenwalk folder. Maybe the script can detect from which device was booted and get this one as the installation medium automatically? I would like to write a wiki page also for installation steps from USB (very easy because not so complicated as with GRUB and copying all stuff to hard disk).
