it is true...network manager is a better choice. I had the opportunity to try it and it is great.

Here's slackbuild for networkmanager, and we have all the deps in repository.

Network manager or wicd? I had problems whit both. Whit Ubuntu no problems,
whit Mint no way, whit the new Salix live I went back to a very unstable connection. What ever will be the next choice let one of them in extra pkg.
Even if the new txz format could give space to add more stuff at the install
CD don't use let the user make is own choices. Fast install, fast boot, if is possible the more near to Slackware so we can use gslapt slapget. And finally I think Zenwalk is the best Xfce distro, spend time for KDE an Gnome
doesn't pay is not Zenwalk market.

Also, I think it would be nice for Zenwalk to have a security framework like MSEC. It works very nice in Mandriva.

My .02 cents...

of course this is just my opinion, but I think the default desktop icons and panel sizes are too small for today displays. Also the 'two bar' configuration takes too much space from applications.

I think its more visually pleasant a 40 pixel single panel and 42 pixel desktop icons.

And how about rearrange all the panels items into a single bar at the top?

again, this is my desktop, so I really like it :) but I would like if Zenwalk looked like this by default:

I also always turn XFCE compositor on and enable shadows for all windows. It seems trouble free with my Intel GPU.

thanks,
Gustavo.

2. Zenwalk has a great coverage in applications section. There is Geany|Vim, Gthumb, Totem, exaile... Still there are no vector drawing program and audio editing tool.

For vector graphics, just load netpkg and install InkScape ... not strictly necessary as a standard software, since many people don't need it (and it does ask to install some extra libraries that are otherwise not required in Zenwalk). IMO, better keep it in extra.

Best regards,
Claus

There's also ready made packages on GSB.

Thanks, Sir,

I have installed networkmanager and nm-applet but:

1. As user:

burkon64[~]$ nm-applet
nm-applet: /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libsoftokn3.so)

** (nm-applet:1183): WARNING **: <WARN> applet_dbus_manager_start_service(): Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSettings service.
Message: 'Connection ":1.30" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings" due to security policies in the configuration file'

2. As root:

root[~]# nm-applet
nm-applet: /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libsoftokn3.so)

** (nm-applet:1905): WARNING **: Could not retrieve dbus connections: Failed to execute program /usr/libexec/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: Success.

(After "Succes." hang up.)

Thanks for the help! :-[

I don't or didn't ever use this program, but maybe it's some dep problem.

Code:
REQUIRED_PACKAGES="libnl wpa-supplicant libgcrypt dbus hal gtk+2 libglade gnome-keyring libgnomeui gnome-keyring wireless-tools glib2 iproute2 gconf ppp perl policykit-gnome nss"

hope you get it working.

I think that Zenwalk should include gecko-mediaplayer with all the ffmpeg plugins. They are available in the repositories and work beatiful with either Google Chrome or Iceweasel.

NetworkManager needs udev >= 1.43 and some dependencies like polkit.
I tried to build for gnome but without a new udev version it is not possible. :-\

Thanks stillborn & bipbip, I'm waiting. (I use UMTS/HSDPA-Stick with HsoConnect and Wifi with wicd.)

Atleast it builds with GSB buildscript on snapshot system, but I didn't try the app.
