Well, the time has come for me to tackle a Mini 9
2 loading issues.
#1 = video mode. I booted with a 6.2 live CD and tried 800x640x16 and that seemed to work okay, but maybe I just need to try a few? Is there a way to change that once it's loaded?

#2 = I can't get it to load with a 6.2 iso.
I've tried a SATA CD Drive with a SATA to USB cable as well as a thumb drive with UNetBootin and both hang in the same place. I get to the partition hard drive, it goes through the formats of the partitions, then searches for a Zenwalk CD and it can't find it. It asks to use a CD drive or a pre-mounted drive....... what the heck do I do here?

alternatively, you might want to have a look at our wiki-entries that deal with this; either:

Install_from_USB:
http://wiki.zenwalk.org/index.php?title ... l_from_USB

or

Hard_disk_install_(no_CD-ROM)_with_GRUB_or_LILO:
http://wiki.zenwalk.org/index.php?title ... (no_CD-ROM)_with_GRUB_or_LILO

(or better: both ;D ) I used #2 to get zenwalk installed on my MSI wind U90 X!!

PS: just saw that 'the above' (#2) url is not shown as an url in my browser, but you need the full line of text as an url got 'get there'

D'oh! I knew it was something stupid.
I tried searching the forums, but searches with "load from USB" or "6.2 from USB" kept getting rejected for the words being to common. :(

With a little modification I was able to get it loaded... used Ndiswrapper for my Broadcom BCM4312 I got wireless up and running... now I'm trying the tweaks for function keys and such that they guy with the Aspire One did... which means I have a few more questions. :)

I want to try his acceleration method for the Intel graphics.. but there is no "Drivers" section of my Xorg.conf. Does this go under the display section?

For reference:
Xorg.conf:
The Intel graphics run a little slow with the stock Xorg.conf. Simply add

Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
to the driver section of xorg.conf and

export INTEL_BATCH=1
to /etc/profile.

Is there a reference for learning keymap values? My Dell isn't mapped the same as the Aspire and I'd like to get a few of my function keys working.

Thanks!

And, another new problem.
Due to the limited screen size, a lot of menu's fall off the bottom and I can't seem to find a way to scroll down... is there a fix for this, or is it just something I need to deal with? Can I rotate my display 90 degrees so I can view it lengthwise to see the menus? I'd gladly set up a function key for this option.

Thanks!

You can 'shift' windows by dragging the window (at any location on the window) while keeping the [alt] key pressed.

You need first xev
Code:
netpkg xev

LOL. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't have thought to try and get some neat stuff working without that, so maybe I'll write one for the Mini 9 when I get it all done. :)

Thanks guys!

Alright, this is fun.
Come to find out, most of my function keys are supported with out fail... most.
A few funny ones that I can't get to work:
Fn + 1 = 223, XF86Standby
Fn + 4 = 174, XF86AudioLowerVolume
Fn + 5 = 176, XF86AudioRaiseVolume

So, these keys are mapped already? But they do nothing.
I tried .Xmodding Fn+1 to XF86 Suspend... which is what i would rather have anyway, and that worked... at least, it changed the value when I look it up with xev... but it still does nothing. Is there something else I should be binding these keys to in the keyboard settings?

Thanks!

Disclaimer: This is not sarcasm :)

Thanks for ignoring me on that last one.
I spent a bit on it;, but I figured it out finally. As best I can tell, all my buttons work, so that's a big relief. I like learning, but honestly, I get impatient.

Now, one more. :)

I'd like to map my Windows button to a workspace switcher... is there some command I can execute for this or does a script need written?

Thanks!

For screen rotation, if your video card supports it then you can go to the xcfe settings manager, click display, and change rotation to whatever you like.
As for the windows button, go to the desktop settings, click window manager, switch to the keyboard tab, click which command you want it to perform (for example, Right Workspace) and press the windows key.

Thanks a ton. I never new I could set window manager shortcuts like that. Super awesome.

Thanks!
