Ok I found the problem. It was due to the new libXi package.
I rebuilt 11.2 and also the new 11.3 for the latest kernel.
Package are here :
11.2
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... 6.37.4.txz

11.3
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-account ... 6.37.4.txz

To install this pacakge:
0) download my package :)
1) go to init 3 (open a terminal in root mode and tape "init 3")
2) rmmode fglrx
3) remove previous package (removepkg /var/log/packages/ati-fglrx-11.2-i486-2.6.37.4.txz)
4) install the new one
5) tape "reboot"

I hope it will work for you.

Bip

ps: the new package are also here

Even I wasn't having any problem with my video-card -- well, not for over a day at least ;-) -- I followed your steps just like a toddler follows his mum's (!): to this end everything is well and clear. :-)

Hi again bipbip,

Far from wanting to re-open a resolved issue, on reflection a question remains: how can I enable nifty features like two-finger scroll/tapping while bypassing xorg.conf?

Many thanks for your (& anybody else's) help again!

Have a look in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/
There is a file 50-synaptics.conf
Copy it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and edit the settings you want.

Thank you for your suggestion, aurlaent; not to appear too demanding, but is there any chance of a few examples / file template / any other pointer?

Many thanks again!
