After installing updates last week the microsoft excel files with extension ".xlsx" are not opened with "LibreOffice". Where as the microsoft excel files with extensions ".xls" are opened.

Is there any missing dependency or some other problem. Suggestions please.

Hi,

First, install libreoffice-extra. Second, execute LibreOffice from a terminal and give us the output, please. :)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Now I found that the "libreOffice calc" is ok with ".xlsx" files also. But, I have one "password protected" microsoft excel file with ".xlsx" extension, for which the same problem is persisting.

Any solutions to this problem please.

You need to upload your image before you can link it in a post. Try http://abload.de/ for example.

I am not quite sure what exactly your problem is. Are you saying that when you open the .xlsx files in thunar they are not associated with LibreOffice or do you get some error message when LibreOffice tries to open those files?

While a microsoft excel file with extension ".xlsx" and which is password protected is tried to open in 'libreOffice', filter selection window appears. Then on selecting any of the filters like "StarCalc3.0 Template" or any other filters the actual file is not opened.

Some googling reveals that this seems to be a general problem of Libre/OpenOffice.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33538
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35422

So unfortunately we can't help you with that. The only solution would be to open the document in MS Office and remove the password.

Thanks for the reply. If password is removed, the file gets opened.

It seems to be quite strange. The microsoft file with password protected and having extension ".xls" opens in "LibreOffice". But not the excel file having extension ".xlsx".

Is there any solutions for this. ???

Apparently not.
LibreOffice just cannot handle .xlsx (.docx, .pptx, etc.) files if they are password protected.

You will just have to wait for a new version that solves this. Or use MS Office.
