In the meantime I've tried installing the latest (version 11.12) ati-fglrx package after repeatedly tweaking xorg.conf; unfortunately to no avail: my X server would invariably crash. I've now reverted back to the previous driver (version 11.8), which works decently well except for the following:
Code:
$ fglrxinfo
fglrxinfo: xcb_io.c:515: _XReply: Assertion `!dpy->xcb->reply_data' failed.
Aborted

There is a problem with my latest package.
I'm in investigation mode :)

I tried to find a solution but for the moment ... I didn't find anything.
You can try to start zenwalk without kms. Add a line in your grub.cfg : radeon.modest=0
or in your lilo.conf : append = "radeon.modeset=0" and launch lilo -v

I'm under gnome 3 and it seems fglrx doesn't like it :(
The opensource driver work like a charm for me (HD4770 and soon HD6870)

I think we have to wait the next ati driver release.

New version available for kernel 3.2.5.
I found a workaround to not erase libGL.so.1.2 from the mesa package.
I tested under gnome 3.2 and it works.

Test and report error.

Very many thanks for your upgrade, bipbip.
Not entirely sure if it is 100% working though, in that I can now use totem which previously I couldn't, but media players like vlc and mplayer remain down (even after reinstall) and opera too remains no longer functional after the latest Xfce upgrade.
Am I the only one with this experience?

I was aware of that post -- in fact I've been wondering whether to chip into it -- but there must be something I'm missing from Anand's solution, in that I could not find a 'xfce-settings-4.8.3' package in any repository; I'll try with downgrading my already installed xfce4-settings-GIT20120204-i486-72.1 to xfce4-settings-4.8.1-i486-70.2 and will report back right away.

[Edit] Yep, Anand's solutions works fine, and I'd reckon so does your ati-fglrx package upgrade, bipbip: many thanks again to you both!

New version available !

Test and if it is ok, I will push it in the repo :)

Bip

ps: Can you check the version number in the catalyst control center? I always see 12.1 :(

Hi there [i]bipbip]/i],
Package installed: so far, so good; thank you for the upgrade! What changed between your last two releases?

Package duly upgraded and tested, so far with no adverse consequence: smooth work as usual, bipbip; many thanks!
This time I won't bother asking you what changes apply between consecutive driver versions (also because I now know where to look them up)... ;)
