Whenever I try to run netpkg or pkgtool, I get the same error with both. I can open both, but once I get to the main menu, where I can install new packages or upgrade my current ones with netpkg, choosing an option brings me back to the menu.

Whenever I click one of the options in netpkg or pkgtool, it goes straight back to the menu.

Netpkg works, no doubt about this.

You must provide details if you want someone to help you find what you have done wrong to break it.

Thanks

Yeah, I know it works.

But it won't let me get to the package selection. I know there are packages I still have to upgrade, as I haven't upgraded X11 yet. When I choose "upgrade packages" the menu goes away, then comes back on the same screen with "upgrade packages".

You should try the command line mode instead.

How fast is your Internet connexion ? cmd line mode is better for low bandwidth connexions.

I have a 1MB connection.

How do I use the command line option? Can I choose which packages I want to upgrade?

EDIT - After opening pkgtool through the terminal, I get the same problems, but when I click cancel to close I get "Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library" in the terminal. Would anyone have an idea how to fix this?

He meant your sort of regional settigs. (2characters_2characters).
I had pl_Pl or something and it worked well in the first place. I guess it has something to do with not-typing the correct password, or opening multiple instances of the program. It can have sth to do with Xdialog, as it's window started openig on login, as the problem appeared.
Had the same problem here: http://support.zenwalk.org/index.php?topic=314.0
All I could do was to simply reinstall the whole system. It's not just "use the command line". One cannot pass any parameters, when pkgtool(nor netpkg) isn't working the way it's supposed to be.

to see your locale type
Code:
echo $LANG

in your console or terminal

Locale is en_GB.

You say it could be something with xdialog?

This happened once before and I reinstalled to fix it. I don't want to have to re-install every few days.

However, one more reinstall should be OK, with the offending packages blacklisted.

Sadly, it didn't fix anything in my case, back then...

I've decided to just stick to the command line version, due to my problems.

Do I change this:

#Default mode of operation : the value can be "menu" or "nomenu"
Default_mode = menu

to accomplish this?

EDIT- I found another thing.

The only way I can get rid of the netpkg and pkgtool (and a lot of other menus I noticed, such as networkingconfig) is to log out. Whenever I log back in, I get a document called X-dialog usage.

So I geuss it does have something to do with xdialog.

And if other menus are broke, I do want to fix this problem.
