Does anybody have any good tutorial pages for Zenwalk/Linux in general. I have a decent knowledge of Linux as I work with it daily, but seem to not know where to begin in relation to my new box. I've installed, but want to change resolution to a higher resolution but it's not available. I checked the xorg.conf file and the X log, it states the HSync is out of range for the higher resolution. I want to know how to fix that.

I have a P4 HyperThread but upon reading these forums, I don't think mine is working because I haven't compiled anything.

The video card, I don't believe, is even using it's full RAM as I don't think 3D support is enabled.

For a Sata hardrive, some actions are slow. How can I be sure I have it set with the full buffer. I remember a hdparm command to test the read/write speed, but I can't remember the actual command.

Any point in the direction of a tutorial would be great as I would like to know more. I won't even get into the 'Setting up a home network server' problems yet (but I did install webmin)

For your monitor you might need to find the correct HSync and VertRefresh values for you particular monitor and modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf accordingly
Google [or your prefered search engine] is your friend.

I'm not sure I understand the statement about Hyperthreading -- couldn't help if I did though, my hardware savvy is very limited.

in the terminal type "glxinfo | grep direct" sans quotes to find out if Direct rendering is working -- if not, you might have to install the proprietary driver foy your card.

maybe "man hdparm" would give you some insight to your sata question/issue.... I've never used that program.

Dude, thanx. I'll check those tutorials out. I appreciate that. Found more errors in the logs regarding finding another CPU. Probably related to the HyperThread. Got my work cut out for me. Although I feel lost, at least it's fun.

Thanx again.

Got DRi running now. Ran Xorgconfig from the command line and inputted the proper information for my Video Card and also got the 1280x1024 resolution.

Also fixed the mouse by putting resolution "256" in xorg.conf. Might try higher numbers as it's an optical mouse and the resolution of the screen is high now.

Zenwalk screams on this machine.

Peace

Joseph
