Okay.  I think I've fixed most if not all the problems with ZenGNOME.  I would love to have some users try this out and give me some feedback on it.  ( @ Kazuya, I tested GDM on a clean Zenwalk 4.2 w/o a problem perhaps i missed something? )

Anyway the Steps to install ZenGNOME are as follows: (this is best on a clean account btw)
1.) Add http://zeqadious.homelinux.net/zenwalk/ ... tree/gnome to your repository list
2.) Connect to this newly added repository.
3.) Install ONLY gnome-2.16.3 package (this will install all the packages for a minimal ZenGNOME)
4.) Done

GDM users should* have a gnome session available to use
Init 3 users can run xwmconfig and choose xinitrc.gnome and startx like normal

Optional 5.) Add-on packages to your Minimal ZenGNOME with netpkg.  (all remaining packages are extra)

Things you should be aware:
1.) I maintain ZenGNOME after my regular responsibilities (Real Job, Real Life, Zenwalk, then ZenGNOME), so be aware that I may not be "on-top" of things all the time and updates will come slowly.  However, feedback is always a good thing (i'm usually in #zenwalk between 10:00 and 19:00 EST) Wink
2.) The ZenGNOME repository runs off my home server (just a regular pc in my closet at home).  It may be down from time to time as I play on Xbox Live! and sometimes I just need my bandwidth Wink ( I apologize now )
3.) Network Manager is an add-on package for ZenGNOME.  It should* work for you if you have already a working wireless or wired connection.  If you have never been able to get your wireless up, don't have too much hope on network manager doing it for you Sad
4.) This is still in a Testing phase.  I think I want to wait for Zenwalk 4.4 before officially announcing my Contributed ZenGNOME.
5.) I <3 GNOME

Stay Zen(GNOME)!

Zeq

Bola86: only the package Zeq mentioned. Nothing else. If you read his complete post it should be very clear why.

once again, ZEQ FOR PRESIDENTIE

also, im noticing there are packages that are redundant for the standard Zenwalk. Avahi and the like. Is there a way to incorporate these into the standered Zenwalk packages, or are they not needed... what is the difference ?

There is only TWO redundant packages:

gnome-vfs (mine has hal support built into it).
gksu (mine is version 2.0.0 and dependent on libgtop and libgksu)

Thanx

Your welcome.

I added libmusicbrainz (rhythmbox depended on it) and gst-plugins-ugly (for mp3 support (you still need lame of course)) last night.

Cool. Thanks. I have been trying out other distros pending the completion of this masterpiece. I shall test it out now. Your gnome package is so masterful. I really hope, there continues to be support for it in future releases as this gnome environment is flawless once I get it running.

I find it difficult to use any other DE these days except for e17, and prfase's kde 3.5.6

Thanks =)

I plan to maintain ZenGNOME as long as I still use Zenwalk and prefer GNOME :-)  That could be quite a while ;)
