Hi all.

Is there any CAD software worth downloading for Linux? I've been used to 2D CAD (AutoCAD, at home I run IntelliCAD 2000). Is there something of reasonable quality with source that could be installed (maybe packed / maybe install from source) for Zenwalk?

Best regards,
Claus

QCAD was pretty good when I last used it.  I'm afraid I don't have an up to date package.

Hi Energiya - your link says QCAD is licensed under GPL ... I believe it is QCAD release 1 series which is GPL'ed.

Hi Pedro. Thanks. Last time I tried QCAD (Under Windows) I didn't get it. I need to convert though, or I will continue to boot into M$ Windows from time to time. Will try hard to use QCAD.

[later] Searched the FAQ and found:

Quote:
37. Is QCad Open Source Software?

There are two different licenses for QCad: QCad Professional is proprietary software. The QCad Community edition for Unix systems (X11) and Mac OS X is released under the GNU GPL license.

I guess your package is the community edition. The community version has limited polyline support (and some other stuff).

Best regards,
Claus

I have successfully installed and loaded the software. QCAD is dependent on qt-base (just ran 'netpkg qt-base' and it picked another couple of files to download).

At first startup a wizard asked me whether I wanted to use mm (millimeter) - yes, thank you. It was unable to resolve another couple of questions:

Quote:
cbLanguage
cbLanguageCmd

This was readable since I started QCAD from a terminal.

QCAD installed nicely in the Xfce Graphics menu. Doesn't have an icon, but I guess I can find one ...

Thanks!

Best regards,
Claus

You can try this one too:

I'm using this. If you check the tutorials then it's easy to use. A very important advance is that it's good for both 2D and 3D drawings.
It's a trial version, but works as the full for 30 days, afterwards buy it or ...

Hi Tik.

Thanks for the tip. I am sure others will find it interesting.

For me - no - I prefer to look at free software only (as in free beer) - I prefer "libre" software, but I am not THAT picky  :) .

Best regards,
Claus

Hello,
I think LinuxCAD 3D v2.0 is also pretty good.High Quality Professional CAD for Linux. LinuxCAD is the leading computer-aided design and drafting program for the Linux Operating System today. Since its original introduction in 1998 LinuxCAD has grown in sales and functionality. LinuxCAD supports DXF , DWG , DXS , SLD , SHX graphics formats.
